Judge Howard H. Hubbard of Clinton presided. The solicitor took a nol ■pros in the case where Jud son Curtis Wells, 27, of Snow Hill, was charged with second offense of drunk driving. Wells entered a plea of guilty to driving while his license was suspended and perjury. Judge Hubbard sentenced the defendant to six mc'.iths, suspended upon payment of a S4OO fine and costs in the first count. Area Calf Sale Is September 24 Ike Jackson, president of the Albemarle Area Beef Cattle Association, has an nounced that the area calf sale will be held on the night of September 24 at Elizabeth City. This sale will be one cf a scries of state graded sales held in North Carolina this fall. Jackson said farmers in the area who plan to sell calves this fall should contact their county extension office or lo cal director or the area cat tlemen’s association and con ign their calves early. Jack Parker, area livestock specialist, advises cattlemen who plan to sell calves to: (1) casteratc and dehorn while the calves are small and before the weather gets hot; (2) to vaccinate for blackleg and malignant edema when the calves are two to three months old; (3) to creep feed calves equal parts by measure, a mixture of shelled corn and oats, and (4) re move the bull from pasture jsien the breeding season is over. William Ross Gets Promotion SYRACUSE, N. Y. Wil liam Ross, son of Mrs. John J. Ross, 107 West King Street, Edenton, N. C., ha= been promoted to sergeant in the U. S. Air Force. Sgt. Ross is a flight equip ment repairman at Hancock Field, N. Y., with the 4624th Support Squadron, a unit of the Aerospace Defense Com mand which protects the U. S. against hostile aircrr.ft and missiles. The sergeant, a 1965 gradu ate of John A. Holmes High School, attended North Caro lina State University, the College of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City, N.
