The following reports were accepted and ordered filed: Center Hill - Cross Roads Fire Department; County Ac countant; Tax Collector; De partment of Social Services; Agricultural Extension Ser vice; Chowan Rescue Squad; GOLF NEWS By LEW DEXTEX OK, so we lost again, but we sure had a lot of fun. Edenton played Robersonville at Robersonville and we lost by 28 points. Edenton will be host the next two Sun days. April 26 Tar boro will be here and on May 3 Wil liamston will play here. I already have the signup sheets on the board for both tournaments, so if you are go ing to play, please sign in and also please let me know if you want a power cart. I have to know as soon as possible on the carts so that I can let the other teams know how many they can have. We now have a practice sand trap at the far end of the driving range tee, so now you can practice sand shots. Also, we have yardage signs on the range and although they are too s nail to really read, the first one is 50 yards and the rest are spaced 50 yardis apart. So now you can see how far you are hitting a shot. Hope to have larger ones that you can read at a later date. What do you think about a left-hander getting an Eagle? Well Boy Lane, Jr., got one on the first hole the other day. After a booming tee shot, he put an iron shot right in the hole. Nice shot, Roy. I would like to talk a little bit about rules. I see a lot of members doing little things on the course that would cost them two shots in tourna ment play, and if you go to a tournament your opponent is going to call them on you and he will be perfectly right in doing so. Golf is played by a set of rules like any other sport As an example, in bowling you don’t step over the foul line and if you do, you are penalized. The same is in golf. If you do something against the rules, you are also penalized. No one is trying to break any rules. It’s just that some ctf us are not aware of all the rules. Believe it or not there are a lot of rules in the rule book that if you know them will really help you and save you a shot or two. So, I would recommend that you get a rule book and study them. You will have ques tions about them and when you do, bring them to me. Knowing the rules can save you shots and embarrassment OK, ladies. Let’s practice and get our games in the best shape because it is time for the Chowan Golf & Country Club “Ladies’ Championship.” You have to play 18 holes to qualify for a flight Ibis will be done any day between the 23rd and 28th of April. On the day that you plan to qualify you must come to the pro shop and state that you are going to play your quali fying round and you will be I given a tournament card. You | must turn this card in and Ino other card will be accept ed Any and all ladies that wish to play in this club I championship must sign in at the pro shop. If you can’t crane out, call and we will sign you in. Entry fee for this championship is $3.00 to cover the cost of prizes, so let's go, ladies. Let’s make this a big affair. It doesn’t matter how bad or good you plan because you will be put in flights and you can win a prize in your flight and all have a let of fun. It doesn’t ! matter how you play the game. Just the fact that you play. Lots of luck to all you Inice ladies in this tourna ment Veterans Service Officer; Cor oner. There being no further business the meeting was ad journed. J. C Bar AnoeUtioft) INTERSTATE LAWS What is meant by a per son dying intestate? This means that he has died without a will. The “intestate laws” are statutes, enactments of the General Assembly, setting forth in detail the disposition of prop- j erty of those who have died without a will. Are the intestate law* the same in all states? No. There is a consider able variance in the intestate laws of the different juris dictions. The intestate laws of North Carolina are changed from time to time. They were completely rewritten by the General Assembly about 10 years ago. The laws of inheritance are at times confusing and tricky. Moat persons do not know who will become the owners of their property at death. They need to sit down and talk things over with an at torney. Perhaps they need a will tailored especially to meet their particular desires and the needs of their family and loved ones. And if a will has been drafted, perhaps it should be altered in the light of changes that have taken place since the making of the will. Lawyers in advisin? their clients these days cus tomarily stress the tax angles in the disposition of property at death. Do not use the form of some will found in a book or copy the will of some neigh bor or relative. The rela tionships and circumstances of others may not be the same as yours. There is an old legal maxim: “No will has a brother.” A resident of North Caro lina dies during a visit to a foreign country lelaving real and personal property in both Virginia and North Carolina. There is no wilL The law of which state determines the ownership of his property at his death? The ownership of the real property in North Carolina and the personal property in North Carolina and Virginia would be determined by the intestate laws of North Ca rolina. The ownership of the real property in Virginia would be determined by the intestate laws of Virginia. As to real property, the governing law is that of the state in which the land is situated. As to personal prop erty, however, the governing law is that of the state in which the decedent had his domicile or legal residence, regardless of where the per sonal property may be lo cated. The VA estimates that in fiscal year 1971 its Depart ment of Medicine and Surg ery will have an average em ployment of more than 142,000, the highest in its history. The Chief of Dental Service at the VA Center in Wads worth, Kan., Dr. Dayton D. Krajicek, was recently named Assistant Chief Medical Di rector for Dentistry for the VA. According to a VA informa tion sheet entitled “America’s Wars," 539 widows and 400 children of Civil War veter ans were on VA’t compensa tion and pension rolls as of December 31, 1989. Cut Home Painting Casts NEW YORK (a)—Millions of homeowners, thanks to aluminum nails, no longer worry about those all too fre quent visits from the house painter. The average home should require painting about every four years, but because of the unsightly rust streaks left by conventional nails some hous es cry for the brush a few months after the last coat of paint dries. A paint job costs about S4OO. Most homes built with con ventional nails demand re painting every two years. Aluminum nails, however, never rust, adding years to the life of a paint job. Hie reason?—a corrosion resistant oxide which forms naturally on every aluminum nail. With these nails the home owner can stretch the life of his paint Job to four, some times five years, cutting the cost of repainting in half— a savings of $2,000. Aluminum nails are avail able, factory painted, in all sizes, colors and types. Rust resistant, they need no special primes and can be treated ex actly like ordinary nails. RE - ELECT Dr. J. H.
