On May 2 the voters of Chowan County will determine what direction public education here will take in the 70’s. The election of Edenton-Chowan Board of Education is the beginning of a new era. Over the past few weeks I have shown you but five of the reasons I am interested in quality public education. I will be just as interested in every child now in the system or those coming along in the future. Frances Copeland Tri-Color Winner Winners Are Named In Flower Show Three top awards were pre sented in the standard flower show held Saturday by the Garden of Eden Club in co operation with Historic Eden ton, Inc. Nearly 500 people viewed the exhibits in the historic homes and public buildings from 10 A. M. until 5 P. M. Mrs. Frances Copeland won the tri-color award for her formal tea table arrangement in the Cupola House. Mrs. Ruth Bond’s entry in Ihe Iredell House kitchen won the creativity award. The third award presented went to Mrs. Frances Inglis. She won an Award of Merit in the Horticulture Division, displayed in the Panel Room of Chowan County Court house. Mrs. L. F. Amburn, Jr., general chairman of the first standard flower show here, said the Blooming Tea Party was a booming success. She said the nine judges took more than five hours to judge the entries and were most complimentary. The Garden of Eden Club is entering this show in national competition. Mrs. Amburn said the full cooperation of club members as well as numerous indivi duals within the community contributed to the successful event. Judges were: Artistic Division—Mrs. John E. Watson and Mrs. Robert W. Johnson, both of Golds boro, and Mrs. S. Neal True blood of Washington. Horticultural Division—Mrs. H. H. Armentrout and Mrs. Kenneth Marshall, both of Goldsboro, and Mrs. W. S. Garrett of Washington. Evaluation Committee—Mrs. W. Marion Odom and Mrs. Hugh Harrell, both c.f Ahos kie, and Mrs. Norman Wins low of Washington.
