Mrs. Elizabeth Goodwin TAX COLLECTOR THE CHOWAN HSRAUI, EDENTON, NORTH CAROLINA, THURSDAY, APRIL 28, 1978. Tomorrow Brings A Promise Did you ever sit end think of times that turn gone past. Os different moments over the brink end which never more will pass? ft serves the heart so wickedly to dream of what might have been, Lift up your eyes and fix your face for tomorrow's just around the bend. i And if tomorrow’s light is gray and not what It ought to be,' Fear not to look towards another day for it could be filled with glee, For each of us some rain must fall in order that we may, With loving arms and soil of God grow stronger every day. I dare to think what might have been if God had given up for nought, Do we, who are such lesser men, have the right to undo what He has taught? So when all seems to be on a track of utter loss, Pull up your chin, cast back your shame and towards tomor row let yourself be tossed. Golf News By LEW DEXTER Well, we won one match. We played host to Tar boro on Sunday and won by seven points. Now, let’s all get to gether next Sunday and win the one from Williamston here at Edenton. Please sign up as soon as possible and let me know if you need carts. Again I would like to thank the ladies for helping us out so much and keeping things running so smoothly. While I’m at it I want to thank all our members for helping me get the course in shape. You may not think that you help, but you do help when you do the things that I suggest, like keeping all carts at least 25 feet from all greens, not practicing on the course, repairing all ball marks, raking your foot prints out of the traps, etc. There are a very few mem bers not complying with the above suggestions, but if these members will please look around and see that the course is shaping up, I’m sure they also will help. This coming Saturday I would like to have an “Aza lea Day.” This means that everyone that comes out to play to please bring an aza lea bush and we will plant it right then. We'll help you plant it and you may select the spot as long as it is in a desired area so as not to interfere with our mowing and golf course upkeep. Then the following Saturday we will have a “Dogwood Day,” and we will do the same as this Saturday. Now If every one will pitch in and help, even If you don’t play golf, we can make this course a very beautiful golf course. You will really be surprised come next spring. But please remember, we want to spread these bushes around the course, not just up near the club house. Next spring you will be able to point to a bush and say, “That’s my bush that I planted. Isn’t it beautiful”? Some of our ladles are go ing to Pinetops on May 7 to play in a ladies’ tournament, and let’s all please wish them luck. ( Keep your head 9 down). Vtam WH Be tlt.lH tt This sale wfil bo made subject to Chowan County ofl te oßememlef By MARVIN BARHAM Several years ago one of the giant Sequoia trees' in California was cut down, and scientists were given the opportunity to make a detailed examination of it. They counted the rings in the wood, and this is their findings. “This Sequoia was a seedling in 271 B. C. and Sl6 years later it was severely damaged by a forest fire. But nature immediately set to work to repair the dam age. For the next hundred years nature folded new tissue over the ugly scar left by toe fire, and the tree was entirely healed.” • “The healing power of nature.” How it helps men as well as trees. We all realize that time is a great healer. We can all recall joys far more vividly and in greater detail than we can recall sorrow. Like the great tree—men and women regain their composure after bereavement, and they recapture hap piness after sorrow has devastated their world. God seems to firfd away for us to look out and not in, forward and not back, up and not down.
