Shawver, cir cuit supervisor for Jehovah’s Witnesses in Eastern North Carolina, is in Edenton this week visiting the local con gregation. He will delliver a free public lecture at 10 A. M. at the Kingdom Hall on U. S. 17 (North) entitled “Educa tion That Equips You For Life.” Mr. Shawver spoke to the local congregation Tuesday night at a special session of the ministry school and ser vice meeting outlining the week’s activity. This will in clude house-to-house visits to Edenton homes with brief sermons discussing what the changes taking place in re ligion today mean for Chris tians. "Throughout the world, church organizations are be ing torn by internal dis putes,” said Mr. Shawver. “In many areas church attend nace has sagged so much that some churches resort to ‘rock* music, dancing and other en tertainment to bolster i(. What is worse, some church men are excusing adultery, homosexuality and other loose conduct.” "Although this may not be true in all areas, its increase is reason enough for all of us !to examine our faith to be i sure it is well founded on \ the truth of the Bible and strong enough to stand up under tests that are certain to come,” he added. In the ministry since 1934, Mr. Shawver has been a spe cial representative of the Watchtower Society for nearly 25 years. Originally from. West Virginia, he and his wife Grace have traveled from Canada to Florida in the ministry. They visited Edenton briefly in 1950 and said they have looked for ward to returning to the area. In addition to the public lecture Sunday, Mr. Shawver will speak at the local King dom Hall at 8 o’clock .Thurs day and Saturday nights. Mr. and Mrs. John Twiddy /Spent the weekend in New Jersey visiting friends and toured New York City. Teenage Honor To Miss White Miss Roxanna Elizabeth White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. White, was selected by faculty members of John A. Holmes High School as the final “Teenager of the Month” for this school year. Miss White will compete with four previous winners to receive a SIOO scholarship from the Edenton Jaycettcs as the “Teenager of the Year." She was a class officer in the 11th grade, a member of the “Spotlight” staff 12th grade, and is an active mem ber of 4-H and the Commun ity Action Club.
