Bateman and unanimously carried authorizing tax collec tor, Mrs. Elizabeth H. Good win, to advertise 1969 unpaid taxes, sale to be June 1. Also tax collector is to be relieved of all back taxes on Nancy Watford proverty on corner of 'West Peterson and Gran ville Street. Property is own ed by the Church of God In Christ. On motion of C. A. Phillips, seconded by C. M. Evans and unanimously carried that the petition presented by resi dents of road leading to property at Nixon Beach, state highway No. till, sur face treated or black topped 9 be approved and forwarded to W. F. John Parrish, chief of police, were presented to the Board. Highway No. 32 north of Edenton at Valhalla, a warn ing sign of trucks entering the highway on a reduce speed sign. A reduce speed sign at Mavaton on road 1303 near intersection of 1315. We feel that fills is necessary due to a curve and the road not being elevated. Several accidents have happened here due to water standing on highway. We recommend to change stop sign at northeast intersection of 1216 and 1222 to a yield sign. On motion of C. A. Phil lips, seconded by David T. Bateman and unanimously carried that the recommenda tions be approved and for warded to D. W. Patrick, di vision engineer, State High way Commission, Ahoskie N. C. On motion of C. A. Phil lips, seconded by David T. Bateman and unanimously carried authorizing Chairman J. Clarence Leary to sign a deed of easement drawn by the North Carolina State Highway Commission for State Highway Project No. 9.7011008 . 08011003, Parcel 5 in the sum of $1,575.00. Upon motion of C. A, Phil lips, seconded by C. M. Evans and unanimously carried $1,946.65 a portion of 1969 taxes be refunded to The Carter’s Ink Company, error >n inventory report Joe Weeks of Winston- Salem presented a plan of fire warning for the Court House and the jail. The Commissioners expressed the immediate need for a system but no decision was made at this time. W. (M. Sanford, president cf the Albemarle Area Arts Council, and T. B. H. Wood, president of the Edenton- Chowan Arts group, appeared before the Board requesting $300.00 dor promotion of the program. No action was taken. A 20-year service certifi cate was presented to Mrs. Mabel Jordan, secretary in the agriculture extension de partment, by J. Clarence Leary, chairman. Mr. Leary congratulated Mrs. Jordan on her achievement. A delegation of Chowan Beach residents appeared be fore the Board registering a complaint relative to com fhdrcial fishermen placing nets near the shore, making , swimming and boating dang- erous. A lengthy discussion ! was held. The chairman ap pointed Carey M. Evans to investigate the matter. i , C. A. Phillips gave a report _ ,on the District Health Boards I meeting. Upon motion of C. M.
