» OWWiN HAU), EDENTON, NORTH CAROLINA Mi : f BROAD STREET BULLETIN... ByKmU I have a concert sent to me 'O'- Each morning from the school, They do not know I’m listening * ! To their notes so clear and full. tic.* Soon all will be quiet And I’ll miss the children’s songs, =*•! Unknown to them, they’re giving Happiness to one whose day’s are long. rlraAs I write about the school -children singing. I’m wonder ing bow many of us realize .that when we sing a song or ; whistle a tune, someone who nvght hear it needs just •SHAT to lift up their spirits M> chase the blues away. So 4-H Club Donates rt To Rescue Squad Center Hill 4-H Club jmet for its regular monthly meeting at 7 o’clock at the Center Hill Community Build ing on Hay 1& Mrs. Gladys Extension agent, held a workshop for those present and taught the group to snake mosaic trays. I think I’m one of the luckiest people in the world to be able to lounge on a nice back porch and watch the flowers and birds and hear the children over at Swain school. God slows us down sometimes, I believe, so that we will notice the little things that are all around us, but which we take for grant ed. My friend Mae Garris came to see me one morning this week before she went to ■ work. 6he is a friend to many and it’s such a pleasure to me to have her stop in for! a chat. i Another friend brought us some of the mo6t delicious • strawberries this week. Each 1 berry was almost perfect,; and believe me, they were; uniform in size and color, | much enjoyed. Other friends ( brought ice cream and a j lemon pie,. Its a wonder I don’t get “fat” from eating all I these goodies. i 1 went fishing last week for just a little while with Buff and to my embarrass ment (that’s what she says) I caught more fish than he did. Pure luck, you know, but I hope he won’t get dis gusted and not take me again. ,1 am out of recipes this I week and would appreciate some new ones from all of you. However/ here are a few household hints to keep [ you going: : You can keep sponges clean j and fresh j after soaking them in cold wratdr. If a door jams just a bit in damp weather, rub the edge with furniture polish and it will open and close more smoothly. Get your stainless steel toaster looking like new by wiping it off with a damp sponge sprinkled with dry baking soda. 'Rinse with fresh damp sponge and wipe dry. A silk handkerchief or scarf worn on head will keep the hairdo in better shape than any other fabric. It clings without messing the hair. Improbable things that keep ; happening: Hemming and hawing; living in an ivory tower and having a thorn in your side. CAR PROJECT The 'Penelope Barker Soci !ety, children of the Ameri jean Revolution, will collect l soft drink bottles and wire coat hangers Saturday. Pro (ceeds will be used to plant shrubbery at the Bandon (Plantation School House on • the Iredell property.
