mail it to the VA office where
you pay your premiums. Give

Q. My mother receives a
pension from the Veterans
Administration because of the
death of my father, a World
War I veteran. She has been
in a nursing home for the
past four months. I recently
learned that she may be en

a nursing home. Is this cor

A. Yes. Have your moth

is a patient in the nursing
home, and the VA will be
able to make the additional
award. (In fact, if VA de

of another person, she will be
eligible for this payment even
if she is not in a nursing
home).
Q. My husband is perma

during World War M. Is my

securing a college education?
A. Both you and your son
may qualify for this assist

and children of certain totally l

military service. After re

Make Going To Church A Habit
THE (NATURE OF THE CHURCH
'T
International Sunday School Lesson for June 7
Memory Selection: ~N ow in Christ Jesus ye
who sometimes were far off ere made nigh by
the blood of Christ.”—Ephesians 2:13.
Lesson Text: Ephesians 1-2.
Today’s lesson embodies one of the most in
spiring of truths in the realm of the Christian
doctrine—in that Christ came on earth to abolish
the barriers that habitually separate people from
God and from each other.
Not the easiest passages to analyze, by any
means, they will bear several readings, much
study—and yield one of the most inspiring con
cepts of God’s plan for mankind a reader of the
Bible will come across in a long time.
Centuries have passed since the writing of
these passages—since the inception of Christian
ity into the world. Words have become strange—
or, at best, if still in general use, have different
meanings.
The literal person, who envisions in his mind’s
eye a building when the word “church” is men
tioned, will find himself out of step with the
context of this lesson. For "church” in this Book
we are studying today, is more accurately trans
lated as .“people.” It is the people who make
up the church, and it is the people who govern
its actions, its pace, its effectiveness. “The
church” is 'the embodiment of all that is great
and far-seeing and perfect in God’s patient plan
for the welfare of mankind.
We ordinary human beings, short-sighted
though we may be, and all to often given to
sinning—are the temples of God’s Spirit. Through
God’s grace, we are the “new humanity.” Our
salvation results from the grace of God, not
through our own deeds. And it results frorft. the
measure of our response to God’s regenerating
power within our lives. >
For salvation is a creative process, transform
ing sinners into servants of the Lord.
If one should have any doubts on this score,
there are many places in the (Bible where one
can see that God, indeed, through Christ, per
formed some of His greatest works with scene
pretty sorry material.
God never demanded that only perfect ves
sels should experience His will; had He done
so, it is doubtful that Christianity would be as
widespread as it is today. Rather, He accepted
man’s shortcomings, in a spirit of. love and for
giveness, and extended His glory to the most
needy of mankind. And Christ, in His short
tenure on earth, carried on in this, wise, going
among the outcasts of those days and times, in
spiring, recruiting—building the church.
God fully intended that the church should
stand for the real and only life that man was
to consider important Through the church mar
was to draw closer to his Maker; he was to see
people and events with new meaning—with the
scales stripped from his eyes. He was to listen
with a new awareness to the sounds of the
world— and to the sounds of Heaven.
The church was a community of people bound

JIM WAS

Mary and I sat on the bleachers overlooking the high school athlotk field
and watched him march in with his da ss. A bird glided overhead, and, front far
off, a dog’s bark and children's voices mingled on the evening air. Sehind cir

Jim avoided our glance, the habitual grin he's worn since babyhood stilled
for a moment in a gaze of earnest solemnity. His first big milestone had come,
and I smiled to myself remembering his eagerness to embark upon the "world

I have no fears far his future . . . for Jim is a Christian. What a wonderful
