A letter was received by the Commissioners from Mayra* George A. Byrum re questing aid for the library, police communica tions, fire department and sanitary land fill. Chairman ■Leary appointed & A. Phillips and N. J. George to meet with representatives from Town Council to discuss these re quests. On motion of C. M. Evans, seconded by C. A. Phillips and duly carried charging pickup taxes in the amount of $599.94 to tax collector. On motion of C. A. Phillips, seconded by C. M. Evans and unanimously carried that the resignation of Ernest P. Key hayes from Mental Health and Rehabilitation Service be ac cepted with regret. The clerk was instructed to write Mr. Kehayes a letter of apprecia tion for his services in this capacity. The meeting was recessed to meet jointly with, the Board of Education for the purpose of appointing a mem ber on the ARC Board. ‘Upon motion of C. A. Phil lips, seconded by N. J. George and unanimously car ried that T. B. H. Wood be reappointed to serve on the ABC Board for a term of three years. There being no further business, the meeting was ad journed and the Commission ers reconvened their regular meeting. The Commission was advis ed of notification by the North Carolina Department of Local Affairs that a Federal ’Urban Planning Assistance Grant had been approved for the County of Chowan, and a proposed contract, designated County Contract No. NCP -131-14, between the County and the North Carolina De partment es Local Affairs for ■the provision c.f planning ser vices was presented and dis cussed; that, under the terms of the said contract, the County will pay a total of $1,560.00 as its share of the planning casts, the same be ing due in two payments, the first payment of $780.00 to be due thirty (30) days after execution of the contract, and the balance of $780.00 to be due February 1,1971. Commissioner David T. Bateman introduced the fol lowing resolution, which was read: “Sc It Resolved, by the ißoard of Commissioners of the County of Chowan:: ‘l. That the contract be tween the County of Chowan and the North Carolina De partment of Lobal Affairs be and the same is hereby ap proved. ■2. That the Chairman and PAGE THREE-B the County Clerk be and they are hereby authorised to sign and execute the said contract for and on behalf of the County of Chowan and for ward the same to the North Carolina Department of Local Affairs. 3. That upon final execu tion a copy of the said con tract be filed with the min utes.” Upon motion of Commis sioner David T. ‘Bateman, sec onded by Commissioner C. A.
