M’ Cleney-Arnold Vows Elizabeth City Marriage Chapel was the setting Au gust 14 for the 2 o’clock wed v ding of Mias Patricia Anne McCleney to James Franklin Arnold, Jr., of Edenton. The Rev. Harry Umphlett officiat ed at the double ring cere mony. Given in marriage by her brother, William C. McCleney, the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Leices ter of Route 2, Windsor and H. L. McCleney of Sanford. The parents of the bridegroom are Mrs. James F. Arnold, Sr., of Edenton and the late James F. Arnold. Miss Stephanie McCleney, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. Flanagan-Chesson Vows Exchanged Miss Bonnie White Flana gan became the bride of Earl Goodwin Chesson in a home ceremony on Country Club Drive, Cape Colony, at 5 PJM. Mcnday. Rev. Percy Up church officiated with mem bers of the immediate fam ilies attending. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Fran cis Flanagan. Mr. Chesson’s parents, are Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Merritt Chesson, Jr., 118 West Queen Street. Several Parties Honor Bride-elect Miss Mary Suzanne George, bride-elect of Thomas Riley Palmer, was honored at sev eral parties before the wed ding on August 22. CENTER HILL 4-H CLUB WILL BFONSOB SUFFER Center Hill 4-H Club will sponsor a hot dog and ham burger supper Saturday night, August 29, from 5:30 to 8 o’clock. Proceeds from this supper will go into the Robin Jordan fund. Miss George Weds In Church Rites Edenton Baptist Church was the setting Saturday evening for the candlelight wedding of Miss Mary Suz anne George to Thomas Riley Palmer of Asheville. Dr. ft. W. Kicklighter of Elizabeth City performed the double ring ceremony. Wedding music was pre sented by Miss Ann Check Euliss, organist, and college classmate of the bride. Given in marriage by her father, the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas John George of Edenton. Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Riley Palmer of Ashe ville are the parents of the bridegroom. The bride wore an Empire A-line gown of ivory organza and Peau D'Ange lace. The bodice had- a scooped neck line and short sleeves of Peau D’Ange lace accented with seed pearls. Covered buttons and loops from her mother’s wedding gown accented the back of the dress. Lace me dallions and lace border were the features of the chapel length train and skirt. She wore an heirloom full length veil of illusion gath ered into the top of a pillbox covered with lace medallions and seed pearls. She carried a Bible topped with sweet heart roses with streamers of ribbon and stephonti. Miss Barbara Jane George was her sister’s maid of hon or. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Frederick Micheau Scovil Mc- Connel, sister of the bride groom, of Oak Park, 111.; Miss Jean Frances Wolf of -Suf folk, Va.; Miss Beth Harris of Atlanta, Ga., and Miss Paul ine Elizabeth Perkins of Ply mouth. For her daughter’s wedding Mrs. George chose a lime green A-line gown of crepe accented with jeweling on the front bodice and matching afc cessories. She carried beige cymbidium orchids on her pocketbook. Mrs. Palmer chose an r ice blue silk gown with jeweling accenting the modified French lines of the dress and back panel. She wore a wrist cor sage of white cymbidium or chids. Following a reception at Chowan Golf and Country Club given by the bride’s parents, the couple departed on their wedding trip. The bridesmaids’ luncheon was held Friday at the Ches son home by Mrs. Wesley Merritt Chesson, Jr., and Mrs. Jesse Leo Harrell. Mr. and Mrs. William Riley Palmer, parents of the bride groom, were the hosts at a re hearsal dinner for the wed ding party in the Pembroke Room. An after - rehearsal party was given by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Moore Thorud and Dr. and Mrs. Richard Henry Har din at the Hardin home Fri day night. The wedding par ty and friends c>f the bridal couple were special guests. Bateman Clan Plans Reunion The 40th annual reunion of the descendants of Nicodemus Bateman, Sr., will be held September 6 at the Scuppcr nong Disciples Church, Cres woll, with Henry Clay Rough ton, a great, great, grandson, presiding. The association was formed in 1929 and has met annually with the exception of 1948 when the meeting was can celled due to the polio epi demic. Nicodemus Bateman, Sr., was the son of Solomon Bate man, a pioneer settler in Tyrrell County, who married Lovcy Elizabeth Hatfield in the early eighteen hundreds.
