When he believes that a great revival is coming, his blood pressure goes to six hundred. We do not prove our Chris tian character just by our. ability to rearrange the church furniture. The devil does that also. He takes the pulpit out every time the young folks want to arrange a wedding. He would move the pews to make room for a dance. He would use the choir loft for a political plat form. He would use the preacher as an agent of secu lar and temporal issues. He would see to it that the church members were cordi ally invited to the parties where the boobs and the bob tails cut their capers. The greens will be in real good shape through the 12th of this month. We will start our overseeding on the 13th, which is a Tuesday. You will be able to play on them as we get through each green and they will not be as bad to putt on as you might think. When you are playing and you come to a green that we are working cn, please do not hit on the green. Just give yourself a par and go to the next hole. This is so as to not hold the workers back. If they waited for everyone to play the hole, we would never get through. Thanks in advance. 'Keep your head down and follow through. Help. Your Country. Your career. . Yourself. Lesson Text: Matthew 5:1-9; Luke 19:1-10; Romans 8:1-9; d Corinthians 5:17-21. Last Sunday we studied what was unique in our faith. Today we are really studying an ex tension of that theme, for we are now concerned with our admittance to a new life through Jesus Christ And who could be more unique than this Personage? Man, estranged from God by his foolish foiblee and weaknesses, sinned repeatedly from the be ginning of time. God, however, was never es tranged from man. This is aptly demonstrated when we consider the sacrifice He made in giv ing the life of His only begotten Son, who died on the cross that the sins of mankind might be henceforth absolved. •When man, deeply and sincerely aware of the grace thus extended him, responds to a suitable degree, he is, indeed, “bom again.” SELFISH NESS, which has hitherto been man’s prime motivations, becomes SELFISHNESS. DESPAIR becomes HOPE. INDIFFERENCE becomes CONCERN. Perhaps nowhere in the Bible are the attri butes of the Christ-like life more beautifully de scribed in the Beatitudes. (Matthew 5, verses 3-9). They epitomize the Christian lift and at* titude. "The poor in spirit” are those who humbly and openly acknowledge their spiritual poverty— and go about repairing it—in Christ. And in this the key word is repentance of sins. An acknowledgment—a striving to do better. “Those who mourn” are those who, recogniz ing their poverty of spirit, mourn their condi tion, and strive to improve it. "The meek” are those who humbly hand the direction of their souls to God, trusting in His omnipotence to bring something worthy out of their fleeting existence on earth. Those who “hunger and thirst after righteous ness” are those individuals who desire to be intimately related to God, and who strive to live a life of which He would approve. "The merciful” possess an understanding heart, a blind eye, a truly loving disposition. “The pure in heart” will not be swayed from the devotion they tender to their Maker—they are steadfast in their loyalty, while the “peace makers” unceasingly strive to reconcile man with man, and man with God. None of these Christian attributes come to mankind naturally; they have to be striven for. They cannot be attained without God’s help. And when we fail in that striving, we are con tent in the knowledge that God has taken note of our strivings. He forgives our falls from Continued on Page 7 G^eCfcTijCer Your Happy Shopping Store W. If the team wins, these girls will be on top of the world. If it loses, they will go home with shoulders slumped. They haven’t really learned "to take it’’. Withstanding both success and failure is a mark of maturity, and finding the strength to go on becomes an act of faith. Have you grown up? Do you have that kind of faith? If not, the first steps toward finding it might be a walk to the church door.
