Following is a resume cc.. cerning the origin of the Ne gro organization: Mrs. Fannie A. Parker, who wanted to make her community a better place in which to live by enriching the lives of the people by en couraging them to become aware of tneir needs cultur ally, aesthetically, economic ally and provide a wholesome recreation for the youth, in vited the following ladies to her home in September, 1945, for the purpose of organizing a club. College Honors Edenton Resident The names of five out standing athletes, a former coach and a former publicity director were added to the Waynesburg (Pa.) College Sports Hall of Fame in con nection with the 1970 home coming day ceremonies Sat urday. The athletes are Arnold Koepke of Trafford; Nick George of Edenton, both for football; the late George Karmarkovich for besketball and whose mother resides near Johnstown; George Lew is of near Sharon, for wrest ling and George (Sooner) Shelton for track and who resides at Bridgeton, N. J. The former coach is 'Dr. James M. Miller, the school’s first wrestling mentor and currently residing at Sarasota, Fla., and the publicity direc tor is John ■L: (Bris) O’Hara, who still resides at Waynes burg. George wound up his ca reer in 1941 and played ’jvith brilliance at guard in many of Waynesburg’s 'most notable periods of football gree.tness- His style accomplish ments put him years ahead of his generation. Never weighing more than 180 pounds, George played with new spiritual fervor and skill which fe w others could ever match. Our first project was buy ing equipment for the play ground and paying for the services of a supervisor for the summer months. We have supported many and varied project:;. For the year 1969-70 we gave recog nition to a Girl Club gradu ate, brought Christmas cheer to the shut-ins, honored re tired teachers and equipped a room for patients in the new Chowan Hospital.
