ferson City, Tenn., and South
western Baptist Theological
Seminary, Fort Worth, Tex.
He is a native North Caro
linian, bom and reared in
Lincoln County.

Rev. M- B. Motts, pastor of
Center Hill Baptist Church of
Tyner and the Great Hope
'Baptist Church of Hertford,
was one of the speakers on
Sunday at the bi-centennial
celebration of the Goucher
Baptist Church of Gaffney,
S. C.
This church was constituted
in 1770. Records in the court
house at Spartanburg, S. C.,
indicate that the church was
first called Goshen Baptist
Church. The church has had
three buildings including the
present brick structure built
in 1961.
The present structure is of
colonial design and has an
auditorium with .full base
ment and balcony, and a
three story educational build
ing.

The Goucher Church is the
home church of Mr. Motts and
licensed him to preach in
1956, and ordained him in
1958.
Hire Veterans’
Week In Progress
November 1-7 is Hire a
Veteran Week, as proclaimed
by Gov. Robert W. Scott
There are 41 veteran appli
cations for work at the Eden
ton branch of Employment
Security Commission. Ten of
these veterans are handicaps
ped, according to Roy Black- £
ley, veterans employment
representative.
In 1966 the “Cold War GI
Bill” was signed conferring
on approximately 3.5 million
•men and women who served
in the armed forces since the
Korean War the status of vet
eran. In addition, the De
fense Department estimates
that in 1970 more than one
million new veterans will be
discharged and over one mil
lion in 1971.
Gov. Bob Scott emphasized
the theme of jobs for every
one and especially for veter
ans. The motto for Hire a
Veteran Week is “A Time to
Serve Them.”
