Friends of the Library—ln
the very near future we are
hoping to re-activate an or
ganization which has meant
much to this community and
the Shepard-Pruden Memorial
Library: the Friends of the
Library. The purpose of such
groups is primarily to foster
closer relations between the
library and the citizens. This
can be achieved' in various
ways by promoting knowl
edge of the functions, re
sources, services and needs of
the library; by helping in the
development of a program for
the extension and improve
ment of the library services
and resources, and by aiding
in the provision of facilities
for the library. Much can be
accomplished by cooperative
effort and we are counting on
you.

Ibis renewal can be granted
if the call is made on or prior
to the due-date and if no one
is waiting for the book, maga
zine or record. But not all
our patrbns understand that it
is not sufficient to simply
call the library, identify
themselves and say “Please
renew my books.” The cir
culation cards are filed by
author’s name for fiction and
by call number plus author’s
name for' non-fiction. Every
one’s time can be saved if the
caller has the books in front
of him when he calls so that
they can be correctly iden
tified by the librarian. We
are happy to provide this
service, but we do solicit
your cooperation.

Pa la table Food
For the Hungry
Proves Popular
Food companies and gov
ernment agencies have found
that some of the new foods
designed to alleviate hunger
and malnutrition are not
eaten by those who need them!
according to General Foods
News.
Most of the foods devel
oped to help solve world hun
ger problems have been in an
unfamiliar form (usually
flour or meal to be baked with
or mixed into other foods),!
and often they have an uuJ
familiar taste. Poor people
who know little about nutri
tion prefer to spend their
meager food money on extra
potatoes rather than for what
seems a small quantity of
high-protein food. And fi
nally, most of these products
have carried the stigma of
being “poor people’s food.”
Even the terribly poor man
says, “I’m not so poor I have
to feed my family that!”
GF came up with an an l
answer. To a large percentage
of the hungry and mal-nour
ished throughout the world,
this new food looks like an
old friend. The food is pasta
—elbow macaroni. It looks,
cooks and tastes much like
regular pasta. It’s hard to
tell from “regular” macaroni.
Results of the feeding tests
in Brazil, showed that in al
most every instance, the high
protein GF product, eaten
daily, eliminated most signs
of malnutrition in 90 days.
With most people tested, it
has already proved to be more
than just nutrition in a pack
age. This nutritious food does
get eaten.

need for two voting machines
for East and West Edenton

Upon motion of N. J.
