George, chairman of the Jail Committee, reported that an engineer and con sultant had been contacted as to the renovation of the jail. A report from the State Fire Marshal on the safety or hazardous condition of the jail was read. Upon motion of N. J. George, seconded by C. A. Phillips and unanimously carried that the tax collector be relieved of the following taxes: Property sold to the Edenton Housing Authority; R. P. Baer & Co., $23.02; Ralph Parrish, $6.62; Lenoria Stallings Estate, 50c; Jake Stallings, $2.12; S. N. Grif fith, $6.06; J. Paul Holoman, $4.67; Elizabeth Luton Barnes, $2 92; Mary Halsey Estate, $7.08; Mrs. Cornelia Privott, $35.69; C. R. Satterfield, $20.57. Upon motion of David T. Bateman, seconded by C. Bateman and unanimously carried that pick-up taxes in the amount of $170.75 be charged to the tax collector. Upon motion of C. A. Phil lips, seconded by David T. Bateman and unanimously carried that Representative THE CHOWAN HERALD Philip Godwin be requested to introduce a bill in the 1971 General Assembly allow ing joint employment of deputy sheriff and ABC of ficer in Chowan County. Mr. Thompson in giving his agricultural extension service report invited the Commissioners to a demon stration opening of the low cost building on Hicks Street November 26. He also in vited them to a 20-county swine seminar to be held November 10 at the Ameri can Legion Hut starting at 10 A. M. Murray Ashley, Civil De fense director, told the Com missioners of a plan for sur vival. Upon motion of N. J. George, seconded by C. M. Evans and unanimously car ried that the printing of the plan be approved without cost to the county. Mr. Ash ley reported that federal funds are available for con structing an emergency op erations center. George Lewis, chairman of the County Planning Board, invited the Commissioners to attend their meetings held in the conference room on the second floor in the county of fice building the fourth Tues day of each month. He in vited them to a special meet ing to be held November '9. Mr. Lewis requested a bud get of $300.00 for this year for seminars and other ex penses of the Board. Upon motion of C. A. Phil lips, seconded by David T. Bateman and unanimously carried that $300.00 be set up for use by the County Plan ning Board. On motion by David TV Bateman, seconded by C. M. A. : Phillips- and unanimously carried that the resolution supporting the construction of a coastal corridor high way through North and South Carolina from Norfolk, Va., to an intersection with In terstate 95 north of Savannah, Ga., be adopted. The county personnel policy was discussed and the Com missioners agreed on Com missioner George's recom mendation that a policy bo drawn and become effective January 1, 1971. After a ’discussion of the application for a permit by Union Camp Corporation of Franklin, Va., to construct a fence and install additional mooring dolphins in Albe marle Sound near Edenton at Horniblow Point in Chowan County, N.
