Let's Talk Turkey ••• We’re pretty darned happy our Pilgrim fathers finally got over to this side of the pond. It was rough going at first, but with the help of the friendly natives, they finally got settled. Then they all got together and had the first Thanksgiving. In those days it was pretty clear what there was to be thankful for. Today, a lot of people aren’t so sure they have anything. Some of our pre-Christmas Scrooges would dwell on doom and the worsening state of the world even if the streets were lined with gold, and manna fell three times daily. But even these negative thinkers have something to be thank ful for— they’re still around to com plain, aren’t they? This Thanksgiving, pause for a moment to reflect on all the things you can of fer Thanks for . . . you may be sur prised to find so many. The Norfolk & Carolina Tel. & Tel. Co. Parker noted that the Beta Club at Chowan High School made a special effort to round up donors and 12 stu dents came via bus to the Armory to give blood. This was very much appreciated, he said. In an announcement at Edentcn Methodist Church Sunday, Parker pointed out that for the past several visits the bloodmobile quota had not been met. He said with the added medical facilities at Chowan Hospital it is more important than ever be. fore that Chowan County ci tizens meet their obligation to the blood bank to insure sufficient blood for the hos pital.
