Caught At Wrightsvitte

The pompano usually aver
ages two pounds in weight.
It is silver and pale blue
above and golden yellow be
low.
The record (world’s record
as recorded) pompano weigh
ed nine pounds and was
caught by a 16-year-old boy,
Arnold Hazell on September
9, 1968, at Bequia, St. Vin
cent, West Indies. This indi
cates that the new North

the films we wanted to see

popular story hours at the
Shepard-Pruden Memorial Li
brary. Regretfully, Mrs. San
dra Phillips has therefore an
nounced that there will be no
story hours in December.
However, beginning in Janu
ary they will be held week
ly.

John Cain of Wilmington
caught this record fish on
October 19 while surf fishing
at Wrightsville Beach. He
used a 12-pound test line and
shrimp as bait; the length
was 23 inches and girth was
17 inches.
The pompanos are cousins
to the “Jacks” and look so
much like them that it is
hard to distinguish them but'
their resemblance ends there.
The pompano is considered
an excellent food fish while
the Crevalle Jack ia the
poorest
The pompano is a fighting
game fish and we must say,
of the first caliber; they are
strong and put everything
into their fight for freedom.
They will take shrimp, live
bait or artificial lures. Usu
ally pompanos are caught
close to shore in sloughs or
channels where sea fleas and
small shellfish may be
found.
This record pompano is one
of IS records which was
broken in North Carolina this
year. The big ones are
