Choral Society Concerts Scheduled The program for the sev enth annual series of Christ mas concerts to be presented by the Alebmarle Choral So ciety Sunday, December 6 at 4 P. M. in the COA Aym torium and Monday, Decem ber 7 at 8 P. M. in the Eden ton Baptist Church has been designed to acquaint the par ticipants and public with a variety of universal and na tional styles of composition. The first selection, a short cantata by M. A. Charpentier, is representative of the early French Baroque period of the 17th century. An aria from Handel’s Messiah presented as an offertory, reveals the uni versal style developed by the German High Baroque com posers of the 18th century. A short choral excerpt from K. H. BYRUM Acting County Executive Director 1»71 Peanut Marketing Quote A national peanut market ing quota of 1,910,000 acres for the 1971 crop was an nounced by the U. S. Depart ment of Agriculture. North Carolina’s share of this acre age allotment is 167,814 acres. Growers who comply with their allotments will be elig ible for price support, and marketing penalties will ap ply to any “excess" peanuts produced. The national pea nut acreage allotment, less one-tenth of one per cent re served for new farms, is ap portioned to states, and the state allotments are appor tioned among individual pea nut producing farms within each state. 1971 peanut al lotments will be mailed within the nexit few days to all peanut producers. Peanut Marketing Cards Peanut producers are re quested to return their 1970 peanut marketing cards to the county ASCS office as soon ; as possible after all sales are completed. No transfer by lease will be made from a farm which received allotments and quota transferred to it by lease during the same crop year. 2. Lease and transfer of flue-cured allotments and quotas under permanent au thority is effective for 1971 and subsequent crop years. Lease agreements between farms within a county may be approved for any number of years up to five years. 3. A new tobacco agree ment, known as Form MQ -119, is effective for 1971. Use of this form will save farm operators and owners from executing multiple forms, as in the past Operators of farms wishing to make a lease agreement should ob tain the form from the coun ty ASCS office after 1971 no tices are received. Committeemen should cau tion growers that there will be no subleasing of tobacco allotments and quotas. Ap proval cannot be given of a transfer by lease from a farm which received allot ment and quota transferred to it by lease during the same crop year. Kansas educator, Theodore Shackelford, has been ap pointed to VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation and Education Advisory Committee. Williams which will conclude the program being one ex ample of the success of this devoted group of musicians in doing so. The directorship and mem bers of the Choral Society believe that the quality and variety of the musical offer ings they are presenting will evoke the same measure of enthusiastic response on the part of the audiences who will hear 'them as has been present in the rehearsals for their preparation. He tasted success again recently when he shot this 11-point buck in Chowan County. The antler-spread was 22 $4 inches. Richard earlier had broken his arm when he fell from a tree while deer hunting. The sling didn’t hamper him a bit, he says, when he shot this prize deer. His father isn’t say ing much about his own success, or lack of it. Hospital Requests One Power Rate Chowan Hospital Adminis trator Thomas M. Surratt sent a written request to the Electric and Water Board members on November 16 for their attention at their regu lar monthly meeting Tuesday night. The request was to com bine the readings of all three medical units, Chowan Hos pital, old Chowan Hospital and the old convalescent home and enter a rate seven payment for one electrical reading and payment. Ac cording to Richard Hines, the new hospital is already on rate seven cost and the other two units, he believes, are on rate six. According to Hines, at the time the now two part con valescent home was used as the hospital it did not quali fy for rate seven and rate six was actually the cheaper of the two cost rates. The board asked that Hines get all the facts and figures | ■ H Fess Parker, NBC-TV’s popular “Daniel Boone,” is the American Cancer Society’s 1970 National Crusade Chairman. As the So ciety’s key volunteer this year, Mr. Parker will visit a number of cities in behalf of the can cer cause. Conger, Jr., was appointed to work with Hines when the final bid comes in and de cide who should get the bid. The bids in are for $719 and SB9O but there is a doubt if 1 the lower bid is for equal f quality material as the high-1 er.
