The prom must be in the school gym, the senior class cannot have any money mak ing; projects, no money will be allotted from the school, •there will be no elaborate decorations, and the prom mur, 4 . take place on a Friday. No student below the ninth grade may attend. There is no deadline as yet for the time a decision must be made. Christmas Spirit Have you ever seen Christ mas ornaments made from flour and salt? If you have not, just walk in to the Guidance Library and Re source Center. Students are learning hew to do this dur ing study hall. The orna ments are very becoming and are inexpensive. The study hall students are (also learning to make jew elry boxes, wool-covered coat hangers, Christmas gifts, pil lows and pot holders under the supervision of Mrs. (Roy Harrell and Mrs. Maggie Dale. This voluntary work Jjas helped students communicate with each other, has taught them how to plan ahead with projects, and has encouraged sharing. Due to these activities, some students have changed their attitudes and it has kept a 'ew out of trouble. The sea sen opened on a victorious note for the girls. Breaking an 18-game losing streak, the girls stomped Camden 53-30. The boys’ team, however, lost a heart-breaking 44-43 ovei Camden boys. Next Tuesday night the basketball term will meet Williamston here to open the conference season. Outstanding plays have been made from both teams. Individual effort has been combined to inspire teamwork among the players. This season should be one of the best ever in Edenton. Christinas Parade Front a Student’s View December 3, sirens could be heard throughout the town. Wi.th a police escort, the Edenton Christmas parade proceeded down Broad Street. Forty-five units made up the parade. Three bands, in cluding the John A. Holmes, Elizabeth City High School and Elizabeth City State marching bands, contribued music. Floats of the Women’s Club, Chowan Academy, JV foot ball, Jaycees and others car ried the Christmas theme. Marching along in the pa rade were the Webelos, Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts and the little major ettes. The rescue squad and the fire department displayed their equipment, giving the viewers an idea of what is available. Antique cars, following the clowns, backfired down the street. John A. Holmes cheer leaders, riding in a jeep, cheered their way through the parade along with the D. F. Walker and Chowan cheerleaders. Concluding the parade was old St. Nick, accompanied by the John A. Harrell Attends ECU Conference GREEN!Vm>E Public school superintendents and other administrative officials from 25 Eastern North Caro lina counties attended a co operative staff development conference recently at East Carolina University. James P. (Pat) Harrell, regional director, In-Service Education with offices with Edenton-Chowan Schools, was among those attending.
