It weighed in at 11 pounds, six ounces and is one of the largest rock to be pulled from the sound around Edenton this year. Small admits the catch almost gave him “rock fever”. J. M. Hassell Dies In Hospital Julian Moßeth Hassell, a retired farmer from Merry Hill, died at the Roanoke- Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie on December 11, after being ill for a short time. He was 79. He was the son of the late Dr. U. S. and Mrs. Virginia Bateman Hassell. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Leary Hassell; two sons, U. S. Hassell of Merry Hill and John L. Has sell of Raleigh; two daughters Mrs. Carolyn Snavely of Pa oli, Pa., and Mrs. Virginia Smith of Raleigh; two sisters: Mrs. J. E. Evans of Wilming ton and Mrs. Mary Goddard of Jamcsville; three grand children and one great-grand child. Rev. C. R. Breedin officiat ed at the funeral service held jat Williford Memorial Cha : pel on December 12 at 3 P. M. Burial followed at the Leary Family. .Cemetery....at Merry Hill. There were 207 certified for stamps and 201 participated during November, according to Rob ert Hendrix, director, depart ment of social services. Hendrix also reported that his department had a total of 622 cases receiving financial assistance and/or service dur ing the past month. Other items in the report showed: Aid to Aged: 88 cases, $4,634 grant; $52.66 average.
