Page2 FORESTRY NOTES Service Forester Clay Ferebee and County Forest Ranger George Tark ington are shown selectively marking a thick pine stand in Camden County. The pine thicket is on Ed and Clay Ferebee’s farm near Camden. The crooked, diseas ed, deformed, and insect-infested trees were marked to he removed. Both saw-timber and pulpwood were mark ed if needed. The Ferebee brothers plan to do their own cutting as other farm operations permit. The stand was marked and thinned about 10 years ago and is an excellent example of the results of proper management. This tract is about 38 years old. Due to past thinnings, the trees are much larger than comparative stands of this age. The Ferebee brothers are members of the American Tree Farm Association and practice forestry in the true sense.
