It resists coffee staining and
is easy to clean, they say.
Java Pumpkin Pie
2 envelopes unflavored
gelatin.
\z cup coffee, heating to
boiling.
% cup cold milk.
% cup firmly packed brown
sugar.
2 cups canned pumpkin.
x k teaspoon salt.
1 teaspoon cinnamon.
% teaspoon nutmeg.
V* teaspoon ginger.
Vz cup heavy cream..
1 cup ice cubes or crushed
ice.
1 graham cracker crust or
pastry shell.
Put cold milk and gelatin
into blender container, add
hot coffee; cover and process
at “stir” until gelatin is dis
solved. Add brown sugar,
pumpkin, salt, spices and
cream; cover and process at
“blend” until.- smodth. Push
“Xrappc” button; add ice
cubes one dt it time and pro
cess until ice is liquefied. Let
stand about five minutes,
then pour into prepared crust.
Chill until firm.
Coffee Angel Tort
1 pkg. angel food cake
mix.
48 regular sized marsh
mallows.
1 cup strong, hot cofiee.
1 cup heavy cream.
Prepare cake mix as di
rected. When thoroughly cool,
remove from pan and cut
crosswise into three layers.
Meanwhile melt marshmal
lows in coffee over medium
heat, stirring often. Chill
until partially set. Whip
cream and fold into gelatin
mixture. Spread between
cake layers. Frost top and
sides with Chocolate Whipped
Cream. To make combine
one-half cup sugar, one-third
cup cocoa, one-founth tea
spoon salt, two teaspoons va
nilla and one and one-half
cups heavy cream in small
mixing bowl and beat with a
rotary beater until thickened.
Even in this age of infor
mality, there occasionally
comes times when nothing
but more formal entertaining
will do. Receptions or teas
to mark anniversaries, to
welcome new teachers or
neighbors, or to honor fav
orite sons and distinguished
daughters arc all occasions
to polish the silver and bring
out the punch bowl. Coffee

“Perennial Plantings” was
■the program topic at the
Garden of Eden Club meet
ing Tuesday.
Mrs. F. B. Drane and Mrs.
John G. Wood, Sr., presented
the program, giving many
suggestions about perennial
border designs and varieties
of plants that grow well in
this area. They had on dis
play many specimens now in
bloom from their own gar
dens as proof of what can
grow and is being grown for
the beauty of our gardens
and the enchantment of our
homes.
Mrs. L. F. Amburn,.Jr., club
president, called for com
• mittee reports and made an
nouncements about coming
events such as the district
meeting October 8 and the
tour of the Dismal Swamp in
November.
More complete ulans were
made concerning the yearly
plant sals to be held o.i Oc
tober 26, where a good vari
ety of shrubbery and peren
nial plants will be for sale.
Mrs. Edward Puryear was
hostess to the club at her
home in Montpelier. Thera
were 21 members present.
