Page 8-B Crossroads Os Aging By JACQUELINE KICKS Sifentaot, Procraat m Aflat Would you enjoy member* ship in a senior citizen club? Ther& are approximately 20 clubs in the Albemarle Area. Efforts are underway by the Program on Aging to organ ize additional clubs. The members of the Man teo club have a most original name. They call- themselves the XYZ Club, meaning Extra Years of Zest. Other club names are the Golden Age Club of Columbia and the New Sawyer Fellowship Club in Camden County. The most recent club to organize is the ShHoh Baptist Church Senior Citizen Club with about 20 members, who meet once a month to hear speakers, to chat and enjoy refreshments. Another club in the process of organizing is at South Mills through the efforts of Mrs. Gail ‘Driggers, aging co ordinator, the Economic Im provement Council, and Mrs. Vivian Jones. The Plymouth Senior Citi zen Club, which recently or ganized, was host to members of senior citizens clubs from the 10 counties June 22 at the Elks Club in Plymouth. About 100 persons attended and en joyed the day and delicious food. The clubs select their own programs according to the de sires of the members with activities ranging from crafts to trips. Meetings may be luncheons with members bringing “bag lunches” or simple refreshments. The em phasis is on computability of members who enjoy doing what they want to do. Any group or individual interested in belonging to a club is asked to contact Mrs. Jacqueline Ricks, supervisor, at 482-8444 in Edenton or the coordinators. Coordinators are Mrs. Gail Driggers of Shi loh, 336-4255; Mrs. Virginia Oliver of Edenton, 482-3783; Mrs. Mildred Hill of Manteo, 473-3671 or J. R. HOW OLD ARE YOU? Age is a quality of mind If you have left your dreams behind, If hope is cold, If you no longer look ahead, If your ambition fires are dead— Then you are old. But if from life you take the best. And if in life you keep the jest, If love you hold No matter how the years go by, No matter how the birthdays fly— You are not qld. —H. S. Fritock. One thoughtful way to rate with your mate is to take the courtesy initiative with his or her folks. Instead of leaving it to your spouse to remember their birthdays and anniver saries, buy the appropriate cards yourself, without having to be reminded, and suggest that your in-laws be invited to a dinner celebration.
