He was a member of Alpha Thu Omega and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities at UNC. Brides find new kitchen tasty idea Today’s modern bride is truly an individual. Her clothes and especially her home reflect her personal taste. Therefore, the kitchen —easily the most-used room usually gets more than its ordinary share of atten tion when planning for the start of a new life. Some modern brides faced with such an ordinary un sightly kitchen—might flee home to mother. One enterprising couple tackled the problem and converted an ordinary area into a conversation piece as well as a happy work-living area. The unsightly radiator was covered with ordinary caning from the hardware store. Inexpensive curtains cov ered window area and extra matching material was pasted over inexpensive window shades. They installed the excit ing new Aztec pattern in GAF Luran Foamcraft Sheet vinyl. To ease the bride’s cooking chores, they chose the modern “Counter That Cooks’’ by Corning. A white, flat sheet of glass-ceramic installed flush with countertop, with heating elements out of sight underneath, the con trols on the two-element model can be either to side or rear. The cooktop, In stalled while remodeling, fitted neatly Into the space Some writing own ritual The “now generation” has created something of a revolution for itself by r writing its own marriage I vows. The wedding cere mony, which had been a formal ritual unchanged for generations, has be come highly personalized for many of today’s young brides and grooms who script their own. Many of the clergy were the first to recog nize these new begin nings. They accepted the couple’s desire for deep and personalized spirit ual involvement and un derstood that religious values were not changed —perhaps even strength ened. r*Q SHOP D& M rHn your Super . BIG BLUE SEA By MARX LIZZIE LANE I saw a ragged little boy Standing out on the street. Hi* face was rather thin and pale. He was in his bare feet. When I passed him he whispered. My mother has gone away. I am cold and hungry, 1 And have no money to pay. Then I asked him for his name. He lookerf'at me with a blurry eye. I could hear a very low whisper, Then soon he began to sigh. My dad is a captain of a boat, Way out on the big blue sea. I’ve started down to the harbor. He’s coming bsck to get me. jt*» awoman’s by MARY LEE THOMPSON Big news comes in small packages for the home this fall. At a recent home furn ishing show in Chicago acces sories were the kind of im portant accents that make a room sing. Wall decorations, planters, art objects, striking lamps— all had a touch of decorator showmanship about them. Even traditional lighting styles took on new finishes and colors. Sleek modern chrome accessories and Ori ental designs also were en riched. - FOR - DIRT AND TOP SOIL | - CALL - LAYTON AND WILLIAMS ROUTE 1, EDENTON, N. C.
