Nixon has officially declared Sep tember 26 as National Student Council Day in order to pay tribute to the nation’s student councils and theii leaders. In his official statement he begins, “One of the clearest lessons of the past decade in America is thJt students want and deserve a voice in their own affairs, and that educa tion can be better when they have such a voice.” He notes that if not student supported and if abused by a few, councils are ineffective. In his conclusion, he urges all students to be well acquaint ed with their student council’s activities and programs, and take part in them in order to make them work. At John A. Holmes High School the Student Council has concerned itself with re writing the constitution and putting it into action. One of their major goals is to be more representative of the student body. Also they are making plans for a student store. These are a few of the ways they plan to make the council more effective. VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE Motorists crossing Chesa peake Bay on the mammoth Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tun nel can see the bay on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.
