Evans and unanimously car ried requesting Law and Or der Commission to reallocate the $15,000.00 formerly desig nated for jail construction to be redirected for architec tural and feasibility study for new Court House and jail on 75-25 per cent basis. The Planning Board re quested the Commissioners to adopt a standard cover for all brochures and books prepared by the Chowan County Plan ning Board. The Commis sioners unanimously agreed on a picture of the Court House to be used on all cov ers. Upon motion of David T. T. Bateman, seconded by J. Clarence Leary and unani mously carried that 24-26 pick up taxes be charged to the tax collector. Upon motion of C. M. Ev ans, seconded by David T. Upon motion of N. J. George, seconded by J. Clar ence Leary and unanimously carried giving Murray Ash ley, Civil Defense director, authority to purchase floor covering for his office, price approximately SIOO.OO. Troy Toppin, chairman of the Safety Committee, ap peared before the Board with the following recommenda tions: That the speed limit be set at 60 miles per hour on Highway 32 from Hoskin Harrell’s store to the intersec tion of 37 that crosses the Sound bridge. Bateman and unanimously carried that the American Legion be allowed to sponsor a County Fair tax free. Upon motion of David T. Bateman, seconded by C. M. Evans and unanimously car ried that a request from Edenton - Chowan Board of Education for an advance ment of $32,000 on 1972-1973 budget be granted. A total of $15,000 will be needed by September 12, the remaining will be needed by September 25. Upon motion of C. M. Ev ans, seconded by N. J. George and unanimously car ried that the agreement with Perquimans County on land fill project as presented by the County Attorney be ap proved. Upon motion of J. Clarence Leary, seconded by C. M. Ev ans that the following people be appointed on the Tshepard- Pruden Memorial Library Board: Tom H. Shepard and Mrs. Lina Mack for period of six years; Mrs. J. N. Slade and Mrs. Marguerite Burch for a period of four years; Mrs. Eliza Elliott and Mrs. Carolyn McMullan for a period of two years. Mem bers voting yes: J. Clarence Leary, C. M. Evans, David T. Bateman. Voting present, N. J. George. Upon motion of C. M. Ev ans, seconded by David T. Bateman that J. Gilliam Wood and Earl Smith be appointed to serve on the Hospital Board as recommended.
