Education .Week Observed Oct. 22-28 “The public schools repre sent the best efforts of the community, the state and the nation to improve the quality of life for each individual and for mankind . . .” So stated Mayor George Alma Byrum in a proclama tion designating October 22-28 as American Education Week. “Our educational system is as good as we want it to be and we should take an inter est by supporting our school system during American Edu cation Week.” These were the words of Jack Harris, president, Eden tton Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Edwin L. West, Jr., superintendent of Edenton- The Bandon Notebook By Mrs. Eleanor F. Jackson Step To The Front Heard and Seen, by “Buff” is a column always read and enjoyed. For want of a bet ter word, it’s about as “home spun” as this is. His sugges tion last week on how to fill those front rows in church is unique and would indeed by worth a try. Can’t you just see, in mind’s eye, the minister standing at the rear of the congregation and delivering his sermon? All kidding aside, “Buff” has reached the regular attend ance at Bandon Chapel, for quite a few more seats were occupied “up front” on Sun day and it was not imag inary. A Bouquet Os Roses Mrs. Irene Dunbar of West ern Gas & Fuel Oil Service, Edenton, grows the most beautiful of roses. Bandon Chapel, as well as other area churches, all now the joy of receiving her lovely arrange ments whenever Mrs. Dunbar has them available.
