Library plans to attend with me. The emphasis at this conference will . be on legislation, finance and library programs with a session on revenue sharing and reports on federal projects also included on the agenda. The keynote speaker will be Charles Stevens, the Executive Director of the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science. Established by law with a mandate to advise the President and Congress concerning library and information services, the- Commission has been holding regional hearings throughout the country. The most recent hearing was held March 7th in Atlanta, so we can expect Mr. Stevens to comment on the testimony received there and in the other regional hearings. SCREECHES CONSUMER COMPLAINTS - Do you know where to turn when you get stuck with a “lemon”? Consumer affairs are a major national issue with offices for consumer protection in Washington. D C. and in each state. In North Carolina, the Attorney General assumes the responsibility for handling problems of this nature. One effective way of handling a problem with an unsatisfactory product is to write to the manufacturer. Since many brand-name companies are subsidiaries to larger corporations, it is sometimes difficult to determine who to contact. In the case of nationally-advertised products, it is common for the larger parent corporation to handle all advertising and product complaints are most effective when directed to this main office address. The Pettigrew Regional Library has available in its three libraries (Shepard-Pruden Memorial Library in Edenton, Tyrrell County Public Library in Columbia, and Washington County Library in Plymouth) an up-to-date reference tool to assist patrons who need to know where to complain. This is the Spring 1973 edition of The Television Sponsors Directory. It lists 4.000 name-brand consumer products - food, cosmetics. automobiles, appliances, etc. - with main office addresses of the companies who produce them. Correspondence on product complaints or requests Jfor product information should be addressed to the Chairmr of the Board or President at this main office address. Visit your county library for in.ormation on this or any other subject. Your Dollar Poes Better with these P&Q) mfinnril7rTnT¥TTTHl (P&Q) \MARKET/ \MARKEj/ GRADE A- WHOLE U. S.
