A negative recommendation by the council can mean that the facility, should it be built, may not receive Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement for patient room charges attributable to construction costs. At its May, 1973, meeting the board unanimously gave its approval to the Winslow project. Evidence of substantial bed need of this kind was cited as well as evidence of strong support from area physicians and hospitals for the project. The construction of these beds will mean much to the Albemarle Area, as local citizens may not have to travel great distances to receive this needed care. Also, extended, higher costs, hospital stays can be reduced due to the availability of appropriate, lower costs, skilled nursing care. At present, both the Winslow Home and the Extended Care Facility at Chowan Hospital are experiencing 100 per cent occupancy. These are the only facilities offering this kind of patient care in the ten-county Region. ■ TryAllerald C'lassifiedFoi Quickßesults Surry Power Unit Working The second of four nuclear generating units at Virginia Electric and Power Company’s Surry Power Station has been placed in commercial service, said Stanley Ragone, Vepco senior vice president-power.
