Educators Meet In Seek Os Solutions POWELLSVILLE - Ten educators from six counties and three from the State Department of Public Instruction met last week with Richard W. Baker, director of Alliance for Progress, at the C. G. White School, and came up with five ways that prioritized needs can be used for the benefit of the school systems in the counties involved. The meeting was under the sponsorship of Alliance for Progress, Inc., which works in conjunction with the school systems in Hertford, Bertie, Martin, Gates, Chowan, and Perquimans counties. Those attending were R. E. Rogers, superintendent, Raymond Robertson, assistant superintendent, and Lindsay Whichard, guidance director, Martin County Schools; Dr. E. L. West, Jr., superintendent, Edenton-Chowan Schools; C. C. Walter, superintendent, Perquimans; Larry T. Primarily, the meeting was to reach objectives for the assessment of school needs. One area in which the school systems may benefit is through grantmanship. Under this category comes instructional education and psychological, social and health services, coordination of existing community services documentation of verbalized needs, prioritizing needs and focusing attention on the six county area needs. Dr. Brown and Hoover have committed themselves to developing and supervising a Consolidated Evaluation System for the six counties. This includes a research staff coming into the area and Storage Changes Are Noted Some changes have been made in the Farm Storage and Drying Equipment Loan Program for 1973. The following changes will become effective on applications filed on or after September 17, 1973: 1. The downpayment requirement has increased from 15 per cent to 30 per cent. Maximum loan will be 70 per cent of net eligible cost. 2. Interest rate has increased from approximately 6 per cent to 8 3 '4 per cent per annum because of increased borrowing costs to CCC. 3. It is their desire to come up with a method of technique that educational decision makers can be able to use in day-to-day program planning and long range curriculum design and development,” Baker explained. It is the aim of the organization to examine the prioritized needs analytically and determine ways to meet them. “It is not the intent of the state and federal educators to re-invent the wheel, but rather to assist our people in getting the needs met through their broad expertise and background in other areas of education,” Baker stated. On October 29, a three- or four-day “Think Tank” session is to be held at the C. G. White School in Powellsville. Attending will be Federal educational personnel from Atlanta, Ga., and those from the State Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh, along with superintendents and local personnel from the six counties. on a daily basis rather than a monthly basis.
