Chowan Student Picked For Honor A Chowan High School senior, Debra Lynn Koraska, wla, recently notified that she is to he featured in, the Eighth Annual Edtiea at “Who’s Who Among American High School Students, 1973-74”, the largest student award publication in the nation. Debra, daughter of Mr. and Blrs. Leonard B. For And About Wo men Thursday, October 3. 1974 NCSU Enrolment Sets New Mark Men and women from 99 of the state’s 100 counties, 46 other states, and 68 other countries have joined to give N. C. State University its largest enrollment in history. The students, majoring in the sciences, technologies, humanities and arts taught at NCSU, total 15,751, according to final registration statistics. That total is 1,500 above the enrollment of a year ago. There are 30 students from Chowan County attending the university. The students come from homes as near to the campus as a block away and from places as distant as Hawaii, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Singapore. Os the total, 4,093 are women students, who for many years were a rarity at NCSU. Another record figure came from the graduate students who are working for masters and doctoral degrees. A total of 2,615 students are enrolled in the Graduate School. A heavy majority of the students at NCSU are North Carolinians-13,587. But the reputation of NCSU across the nation and around the world also attracted students from 46 other states, the District of Columbia, four American territories and 68 other countries. Holmes High was recently notified that she is to be featured in the Eighth Annual Edition of “Who’s Who Among American High School Students, 1973-74,” the largest student award publication in the nation. Students from over 20,000 public, private and parochial high schools throughout the country are recognized for their leadership in academies, athletics, activities or community service in the books. Less than 3 per cent of the junior and senior class students nationwide are awarded this recognition. Knovack is the dadghter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Gramby, West Albemarle Street Ext. She is active in many varied activities in school and is the top 10 per cent of her class. Knovack has also been selected to act as a 1974 Debutante. She will be presented to society in December of this year. In addition to having her biography published in the book, Knovack will also compete for one of ten scholarship awards of SSOO to SI,OOO funded by the publishers Ttfnd ti, participate in the firm’s annual “Survey of High Achievers.” Knovack plans to attend either Howard University, Washington, D.C., Winston- Salem State University, or University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and major in political science and-or pre-law upon graduation in June. Candlelight Service Unites Couple Miss Dorothy Ann Brabble became the bride of Jerry Wayne Parrish on August 25 at 4 P.M. at Yeopim Baptist Church. The double-ring ceremony was performed by Rev. C. L. Brewer in a candlelight setting of palms, white mums and daisies. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Marina Brabble and Henry Brabble, Jr., of Edenton. Mr. Parrish is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Moore Parrish, also of Edenton. The wedding music was provided by Rev. and Mrs. Robert E. Gray, soloist and pianist respectively. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of white silk organza over bridal taffeta fashioned with high rise waist, gathered skirt and high neckline which was trimmed with lace. It featured long puff sleeves with lace trim. Her train length illusion veil was accented with lace. She Carried a bouquet of daisies and pink roses. Mrs. Hope Williams, aunt of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Donna Brabble, sister of the bride; and Miss Lisa Brabble, cousin of the bride. Mr. Parrish was his son’s best man. . Groomsmen were Michael Parrish and Carroll Parrish, ‘brothers of the groom. For her daughter’s wedding Mrs. Brabble wore a floor length dress of pink lace chiffon with matching accessories. She wore a white carnation corsage. Mrs. Parrish chose a floor length dress of blue chiffon with matching accessories. She also wore white carnations. Mrs. James Brabble of Creswell was mistress of ceremony. Immediately follwoing the ceremony a reception was held in the church Sunday School rooiqr, given by the bride's family. After a wedding trip to Florida, the couple resides in Edenton where the groom is engaged in farming. A cook-out was given for the wedding party on August 20 by friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Perry. On August 21 a miscellaneous shower was given by Mrs. Frankie Parrish at her home. On August 22 the bride was honored at a lingere shower given by Mrs. Richard Williams. The rehearsal dinner was given by Mrs. Fred Clarke and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie M.
