The halls of College of the
Albemarle’s main campus will
be bustling with activity this
week in preparation for
Homecoming 1974-75.

activities planned for alumni.

Friday from 6 to 7:30 P.M. In

friends and faculty, alumni will
be given free tickets at the
reception to the basketball
game with Ferrum College and
the Homecoming Dance which
follows. Music for the dance will
be provided by Harpo’s
Gas ho use Gang.
At the reception there will be

Farmers Urged Buy Wrih Caution
RALEIGH—North Carolina
farmers were warned today to
exercise caution in purchasing
pesticides by telephone,
particularly weed control
products (herbicides).
The warning came from N. C.
Commissioner of Agriculture
•James A. Graham as a result of
complaints received by the
department’s Office of
Consumer Services.
“Farmers who purchase
herbicides by telephone are at a
decided disadvantage,’’
Commissioner Graham said.
“They do not have the
advantage of personally
reviewing the product label nor
do they have access to the
personal service and
instructions of dealing with a
licensed dealer location.
“Our calls indicate some
producers have bought by
phone only to learn later that
the product was limited in use
and higher in price than other
comparable brands. One man
even reported that he had been
billed for a so-called free
sample.
William B. Buffaloe, chief of
the Pesticide Section of the
NCDA Pest Control Division,
offered the following
precautions to be exercised in
the purchase of herbicides,
either by telephone or from a
farm supply store.
1- Determine active
ingredients and the percentage
of each. A low percentage of
Eastern Carolina's oldest mobile home
dealers.
Even if you're not ready for a double. * „
East Coast Sales is ready for you. We’ve
got plenty of singles in Gatesville, Ahoskie
and Murfreesboro.
Double or single, the right mobile
home is worth going out of your way for.
But since East Coast Sales has three
lots and such a large selection, you don’t
have to go out of your way at all.

LOUIS L. HOLTZ
Lou Holtz Crusade Chairman
RALEIGH—Coach Louis L.
Holtz of Raleigh has been
named 1975 American Cancer
Society Crusade chairman by
Mrs. Robert W. Scott, president
of the N. C. Division.
In naming Holtz, Mrs. Scott
said, “He is a tremendous
coach, an able administrator,
and an expert in the team
active ingredients would
probably result in a high cost
for effective control.
2- Determine use or uses of
Die product. Buy the product
needed for your specific
problem.
3- Determine total price,
including shipping and handling
charges, if any. -
4- Write down information
given by telephone salesmen.
This would aid the pesticide
section should the question of
misrepresentation arise.
5- Check with the NCDA
Consumer Services Office
(prior to purchase) to be sure
product is properly registered
with the Environmental
Protection Agency and the
NCDA.
“The use of pesticides has
become an essential tool in the
production of agricultural
products,” Graham concluded,
“and their effective use will
protect the environment and the
financial interest of the
producer as well.”

Food Stamp Amendment Is Proposed By USDA
WASHINGTON, D. C.-Food
stamp recipients would pay a
standard 30 per cent of net
income for their food stamp
allotment, effective March 1,
under an amendment to food
stamp regulations proposed by
the U. S. Department of
Agriculture (USDA).
The intention to propose this
increase was announced in
President Ford’s budget
message of November 26.
the proposal would mean an
increased purchase
requirement for all households
except (1) certain households of
eight or more persons, which
have been paying 30 per cent of
income and (2) those entitled to
free food stamps under the law
(one and two person
households with net monthly
income of less than S2O and all
other households with income

For example, a four person
household with a monthly net
income of $l5O after allowable
deductions (eg. taxes withheld,
shelter cost over 30 per cent of
income, medical expense over
$lO and child care expense) now
pays s4l for $l5O in food stamps.
Under the proposed formula,
that household would pay $45
for its food stamp allotment.
The proposal is in line with
the provision of the Food Stamp
Act specifying that the amount
a household pays for its food
stamps should represent a
reasonable investment on the
part of -the household, not to
exceed 30 per cent of the
household’s income. Current
purchase requirements vary
widely in percentage of income.
The proposal is designed to
