The Year Os ’6B
BY MARY LIZZIE LANE
It was in the year of sixty-eight,
When the stork came around.
He gave to my daughter Vida,
The new years baby for the
town.
Now she reached the age of
seven,
She grew Just like a weed.
They sent her to the
kindergarten,
An education she will need.
She lives on the corner of
Cabarrus Street,
Her hair is blond, her eyes are
blue.
And Susaft is my grand
daughter,
I am really pleased to tell you.
We gave her a birthday party,
There were only a few guests.
She was once the new years
baby,
And she was at her very best.
I can remember seeing her
picture,
On the front page of the Herald.
Back in the year of sixty-eight,
Telling about the new years
baby girl.
Now seven years have past by,
Something we can never recall
We watched over her very
patiently,
. She has been a pleasure to us
all.
When her childhood days are
over,
Out in this world she may roam.
But she will never forget,
Chowan County as her native
home.
