TUNE UP WITH TUNA You many not be happily aware of it, but you can get 100 percent of your daily protein requirement in a seven ounce can of tuna. Tuna’s protein supplies your body with a rich source of amino acids, which are the essential building blocks of the body. • • • Canned tuna in vegetable oil is lower in fat than lean red meat. Doctors and nutritionists concerned about cholesterol and reducing the incidence of cor onary heart diseases rec ommend that people eat more fish. * • • Because there is less connec tive tissue in tuna, it is more readily digested than red meat This accounts for its wide use in meals for the very young and the elderly, as well as in convalescent diets. * * • Tuna has a high content of vitamin 812 and other factors needed for growth. It also supplies iodine, which prevents goiter; phosphorus, for strong bones, and fluorine, to develop teeth and prevent decay. Vita mins for maintaining normal metabolism are also present in tuna in substantive amounts. THE CHOWAN HERALD Herald Society News Mrs. John A.
