Edenton BPW Hosts District Ten Annual Meeting The Edenton Business and Professional Womens Club hosted the annual meeting of , the District Ten of The North r Carolina Federation of Business amLProfessional Womens Club, InC,, on April 27, with Mrs. Clara Boswell, Edenton BPW President, presiding. The meeting-which was the second largest held in North Carolina for the year 1974-75- had a total attendance of 160. The district consists of 10 chartered clubs and one club in the process of charter, a total' membership of 415. Miss Edna L. Snell, member of she host club, is currently serving as District Director. Special guests attending the meeting were Mrs. Carolyn Williams, state president; Mrs. Bettye Powell, state president elect; Mrs. Laura Williams, state finance chairman; Immediate Past State- President Janet Blair; Chairman for the 1975 State Convention, Mrs. Helen H. Mahlum, wastern area vice president; Mrs. Shirley M. Williams, director,lV; and Mrs. f Julia M. Hassell, forom the local club, state legislative > The highlight of the meeting was the Young Careerist Program. Selection Committee for the program were Nelia Amstutz, teacher at Chowan High School; Merrill Evans, Edenton attorney and Robert Gray, pastor of Edenton Baptist Church. Margaret S. Murray, representing the Nashville Club was the winner. Margeret is a teacher in the Rocky Mount City Schools and a graduate of Wake Forest University. In winning on the district level, she .will now compete on the State level at the State Convention to be held in Raleigh in June. In describing her ambition she states she has a desire to instill within the learner the potential to become everything he or she can! Realizing this aim is idealistic, she counts herself a success only if one person, whom she teaches discovers he or she is somebody or in the words of Thomas Harris “okay”. The runner-up, Susie Jakeman, will compete at the state level should Margaret be unable to compete. Susie is a graduate of East Carolina University and currently teaching in Washington County MARGARET S. MURRAY Schools at Plymouth High School. She was winner over five participants in her local club. The Young Careerist program is developed to honor Young Career Women, to encourage them, implement and moticate ideas within their careers to increase and elevate the standards of woemn in today’s world of increased activities of women, both young and old. Mrs. Elizabeth Hare, local club chairman served as hostess to the participants and the Selection Committee. During the ensuing business session the district officers for 1975-76 were elected as follows: Director - Mae Dawson of Tarboro Club. Secretary-Treasurer - Clara Harrell of Tarboro Club. Director-Elect - Hazel Harrell of Rocky Mount Club. State Nominating Committee Representative - Edna L. Snell of Edenton Club. District Nominating Committee - Ruth Mansfield, chairman, Edenton Club, Betty Rader, Roanoke Rapids Club and Betty Smith, Rocky Mount Club. The award of the Ruby Clythe Bowl which is given in recognition of the largest increase in membership during the year was received by the Nashville Club. Special Music Slated For Baptist Service “Miss, Mrs., or Ms ? (A Good Woman Who Can Find?)” is the sermon subject Rev. Robert E. Gray, pastor of Edenton Baptist Church, has selected for the 11 o’clock service on Sunday morning with Proverbs 31: 10-31 as his scripture text. Special music during the morning worship will be provided by a quartet composed of Mrs. John Smith, Mrs. James Canterberry, Alton G. Elmore, and J. R. Baxley singing “Follow Me.” Also performing during the service will be the Celestial Choir (4 & 5-year-olds) under the direction of Mrs. Larry Smith. At the 7:30 evening worship, Mr. Gray will speak on “Preaching Through Adversity” using Philippians 1: 12-14 as the scripture and the Sanctuary Choir will- render Jhe anthem entitled “Lord, I Want To Be A Christian.” NARFE MEETING There will be a meeting of the National Associaion of Federal Retired Employees at 2:30 P.M. Friday in the REA Building in Hertford. All federal retirees are urged to attend. Snyder, 603 Knollwood Street of Winston-Salem, announce the engagement of their daughter, Pamela Sue, to George Winborne Blanchard. The wedding is planned for July 26, at the Advent Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. Blanchard, Route 3, Jay cette Meeting Held The Edenton Jaycettes held their board meeting April 28 at the home of Mrs. Joyce Evans, president. Seven board members were present and committees were selected with chairmen being named. The regular monthly meeting was held May 1 at Mrs. BeswelL*—Restaurant with 16 members and seven guests present. Dr. Edwin West of Edenton-Chowan Schools presented a program on the reorganization plans for the school system. Reports were received from varius committee chairmen and the meeting was closed with the club’s creed. THE CHOWAN HERALD Edenton, is a 1968 graduate of East Carolina University. He received his MA degree at Appalachian State University' and did final graduate work in history at the University of Tennessee. Mr. Blanchrd is a lieutenant in the army reserve and holds a mobilization designation with the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence in Washington, DC. He is presently working as an adjudications claims officer with the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Winston-Salem. GROUP WILL MEET The Northeastern N. C.
