Section B The Bandon Notebook By Maggie B. Beautiful! Outstanding! Inspirational! These are just three adjectives which aptly describe the Installation Service for Dr. W.J.p. Livingston Sunday afternooii, the greatest milestone in Bandon Chapel’s existence. In spite of the inclement weather, a near capacity crowd was present and one could actually fed the spirit of warmth, friendliness and brotherly love which prevaded the atmosphere. Deacon Henry T. Bunting was the Presiding Officer, giving the invocation and welcome. Approrpiate scripture was read by Rev. George Cooke of Ballards’ Bridge Baptist Church. The Pastoral Prayer was rendered by Rev. Charles Ledford of Macedonia Baptist Church followed by a solo by Mrs. Susan Godley, entitled “Jesus, Use Me”. Her beautiful voice filled the sanctuary, setting the mood for the inspiring message of Rev. Since Bandon Chapel is in reality “the child” of Rocky Hock Baptist Church whose people encouraged us so much, helped in many different ways and lent us their talents and prayers to get started, it was appropriate that Rev. Larry McClure, pastor of Rocky Hock, was assigned to “Question the Pastor” as their off-spring “came of age”. Rev. George Cooke gave the “Questions to the Congregation”. When he announced “In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Great Head of the Church, I do pronounce and declare that Dr. W.J.B. Livingston is duly constituted the Pastor of this congre gation”, the sun brilliantly broke through the clouds as if God was smiling and giving His stamp of approval. (Made cold shivers run down one’s back.) The “Charge to the Congregation” was given by Elder B. K. Rowley and the “Charge to the Pastor” was given by Elder W. F. Smith, both members of Simonsdale Presbyterian Church but also claimed by Bandon Chapel. These dedicated men have been devoting their time and talents to Bandon Chapel for a number of years and are ready and willing to perform any task asked of them. The Benediction was given by Dr. W.J.B. Livingston. Music was provided by W. F. (Butch) Smith at the piano and Mrs. H. T. (Margaret) Bunting at the organ, with B. Kent Rowley leading the singing. Bandon Chapel extends heartfelt “thanks” and appreciation to the ministers and all others who labored that this day and hour might be. Following the Installation Ceremony a delightful reception was held in Fellowship Hall, coordinated by Mrs. Willie N. (Louise) Waters. The table was beautifully decorated with crystal and silver and an abundance of delicious homemade cookies - every variety imaginable - fudge, mints, sugared pecans, peanuts and refreshing punch was available for the enjoyment of all. Mrs. Garris (Betty) Perry presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. Waters extends a grateful “thank you” to all the ladies who made and donated the “goodies” and helped with the reception. Following the opening exercises Sunday morning, Supt. Thomas H. Dilday shared a letter just received from David Smith, our Edenton, North Carolina, Thursday, February 26, 1976 missionary in Africa. David expressed his appreciation for being accepted into the membership of Bandon Chapel. He reported that little Becky now weighs 20 pounds and is beginning to walk. He requested our prayers that he and Linda (his wife) would be successful in spreading the gospel of Christ. In reviewing our Prayer List, we find that Jane Barnes, Terrance Barden, Juanita Elliott, Harry Webb, Bob Mason and Elizabeth Rogerson are still in need of prayer. Prayer is also requested for Watson Blanchard now in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth, Va., Mrs. Annie Cooke in Chowan Hospital, Mrs. Dot Wooten in Duke Hospital and Mrs. R. E. Harvey. Don’t forget our missionaries and our beloved pastor. NOTE: Bible Study will be held this week on Tuesday night instead of Wednesday, at 7:30 P.M. in Fellowship Hall. Dr. “Bill” will lead the discussion. All are invited. The BCWG will meet Thursday from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. Bring a sandwich and enjoy fellowship with us. “Happy Birthday” was sung by all in honor of “Izzie” Barden and Henry Skinner as their contributions were added to our Birthday Bank. Our Juniors, taught by Mrs. Betty Perry, had as their subject “Courage to Live For Christ”, based on II Tim. Aim was that the pupil may discover the Christian’s resources for daily living. “The Church’s Meaning and Mission”, Matt. 16:13- 26, was the topic for our Adults, by Mrs. H. T. Bunting. Aim was that adult Christians learn true discipleship, declaring Jesus Christ both personally and as a united Body before the world, and carrying out His work on earth. Psalm 63 and Matt. 7:7-8 was the basis for Dr. W.J.B. Livingston’s enlightening message “0 God, Thou Art My God - Early I Will Seek Thee”. A brief resume follows: The ultimate longing of the human heart is to know God - to find an answer to our deepest needs. We cannot have rest until we find rest in Him. However, He doesn’t force Himself on us - He waits for us to come to Him. Ask God to come to your rescue, no matter what the circumstances may be. Take the way of love. Seek the lonely path knowing that one with God is a majority. Light your candle of faith in Jesus Christ so it will shine in this dark world. Seek and ye shall find.
