1969-1976 Beloved Pal and Faithful To The End
We’ve laid you to rest ’neath the shade of the trees,
You’ve come to your journey’s end.
My heart is heavy my eyes grow dim,
As I bid you goodbye old friend.
You were only a dog,
But your heart was true.
Your love was given, not bought,
A kind look, a word, a caress on your head
was all the reward that you sought.
You did not see that I had my faults,
And you would not have cared had you known.
Like a sunbeam you lightened my life for a while,
And now like the sunbeam you’re gone.
You were happy and playful when I was glad,
When I sorrowed you seemed to know.
And your brown eyes said as plain as the words,
“I follow wherever you go.”
We do not know that we’ll meet again
Hie future is misty with fog.
But if God calls me with loved ones and friends,
Then I want you there, my dog.
