\ After 100 years, it’s time for the people to decide: -Should the voters be able to elect a Governor or Lieutenant vaovernor to a second consecutive term? --Should the principal duties of the Lieutenant Governor be placed in the executive branch or in the General Assembly? --Depending on the decision about the Lieutenant Governor’s duties should the Governor and Lieutenant Governor run as a team? —Should the Governor have the veto power? -ShouW certain members of the Council of State be appointed rather than elected? Superintendent of Public Instruction be appointed by the State Board of Education rather than elected? "ratheMhan elected? be aPP ° imed by ,he General Assembl V' s . tat . e officials be elected in years in which there is no Presidential election? -Should legislators be elected for four-year terms, rather than for two-year terms? --Should North Carolina judges be appointed by the Governor on a non-partisan, merit basis? A constitutional convention will offer the people not the politicians the right to decide these issues. A convention does n °t mean that the historic values of the constitution will be scrapped; instead, they will be strengthened by being re-examined and re-accepted. In addition, the con vention will permit the people to make the changes nec essary to form the government as they wish it to be.
