Page 3-B Feeder Pig Prices Sfronger Feeder pig prices were stronger this week. Five state graded sales sold a .total of 5,227 head. U. S.. 1-3, 40-50 pound pigs brought 68.25-80.50 per cwt., 5060 pounds brought 55.00-79.00, 60-70 pounds brought 50.50- 68.25, 70-80 pounds, 54.00- 61.50. At weekly cattle auctions held about the State this week slaughter cows were 50-75 lower, veals mostly 2.50-4.50 lower slaughter steers and heifers 50-1.75 higher and feeder calves irregular. Utility and commercial slaughter heifers 33.00-33.50 and Good grade 30.50-33.25. Good feeder steers 300-600 pounds, 29.00-34.00 and Good feeder heifers 300-500 pounds 25.00- 29.75. North Carolina hog prices at daily buying stations ranged from mostly 42.00- 45.50 The broiler fryer market is weaker in the state. Supplies are short to moderate with a good demand. The North Carolina dock weighted average price is 39.38 cents per pound for small pur chases of sizes plant grade broilers for the August 23-27 period. Total birds slaughtered this week totaled 6,439,000. Egg prices were about 3 cents higher on medium and small sizes this week but fractionally lower on large. Supplies are adequate. Demand good. The North Carolina weighted average price for small lot sales of consumer grade A eggs in cartons delivered to nearby retail outlets on Friday was 75.97 per dozen for large, medium 68.75 and smalls 48.14. Corn prices were 20-26 cents lower and soybeans were irregular through Thursday of this week, as compared to the same period last week. No. 2 yellow shelled corn ranged mostly 2.40-2.60 in the east and 2.50-2.78 in the pied mont. No. 1 yellow soybeans 5.95-6.49. No. 2 red winter wheat 2.54-2.75. No. 2 red oats 1.35-1.45: New crop corn for harvest delivery 2.29-2.40. New crop soybeans for harvest delivery 5.92-6.23. In Western North Carolina heavy harvest of apples is under way with 53 carlot equivalent of apples shipped this week. Most packing houses are operating and increased supplies of good quality red and golden delicious apples are being sold. Haywood and Madison counties are nearing their peak tomato harvest. Prices are steady with 20-lb cartons of large and extra large bringing 6.00. Moderate to light supplies of cabbage, pole beans, cucumbers and squash are available. Total pounds of tobacco sold this week in the Old and Middle Belt amounted to 29,443,229 pounds and averaged $100.35. Stabilization Corporation received 30.2 per cent for the week. Eastern Belt sold 31,117,359 pounds for an average of $113.71. Stabilization Corporation received 7.8 percent. Border Belt sold 18,975,272 pounds for an average of $116.30 with Stabilization receipts at 2.7 percent.
