C. * GILLS Mr. Smith Claims Bride Miss Nancy Darlene Evans of Edenton, and Mr. Jeffrey Lawrence Smith of Birmingham, Ala., were united in marriage on Saturday , at 8 o’clock in the evening in the Rocky Hock Baptist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll A. Evans, Sr., and the late Mrs. Betty C. Evans. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Smith of Windsor. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Larry McClure in a can dlelight setting of glads, mums, pompoms and palms. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of imported silk organza with venise and clung lace trimming, featuring an empire bodice with inserts of lace panels and yoke edged in a ruffle of clung lace. The gown had a high neckline with a tiny collar edged in venise lace buds. The long sleeves ended in a wide cuff of tiny tucks and lace. A full detachable train which had a wide ruffle with tiny tucks and lace, extended into a full chapel length. The mantella was of silk illusion trimmed in scalloped chantilly lace and appliques of matching lace. The bride carried a nosegay of white roses and baby’s breath. The bride’s brother Mr. Carroll A. Evans, Jr., soloist, presented music along with Mr. Jakie Boyce, organist. Miss Carol Ann Byrum of Elizabeth City was maid of honor. Miss Joy Bass of Edenton, Miss Patricia Harris of Nashville, and Miss Debra Rhodes of Wilmington, were the bridesmaids. The groom’s mother chose to wear a floor length formal light blue gown and also wore an eggshell orchid corsage. Mistresses of ceremony was Mrs. Mary Long of Edenton. Miss Karen Evans, cousin of the bride also from Edenton, registered the guests. Cousins of the bride, Miss Melonie Evans, of Raleigh, and Master Greg White of Elizabeth City, distributed rice bags to the guest following the ceremony. Following a wedding trip to Florida, the couple will make their home in Bir mingham. The groom is employed as a project engineer at Ball-Co Con tractors. The bride was honored at a lingerie shower at the home of Miss Carol Ann Byrum on August 18. Jaycette Board Holds Meeting The monthly board meeting of Edenton Jaycettes was held August 30 at the home of Anne Parrish. Eight members were present. At die regular meeting at Mrs. Boswell’s Restaurant on September 2, the club members had Stan An danchuck, Chris Rode and Dottie Lilliebridge of WBXB FM in Edenton as guests. Andanchuck explained the background of radio to the club members. A report was also given on the club’s activities. Lloyd Burton of Houston, Tex. arrived last Thursday to spend a few days in Edenton visiting his aunt, Miss Aurelia Lay den. Ben Bunch student at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson visited his mother Mrs. John A. Bunch last weekend. Mrs. Liza Elliott of Tarboro is spending this week visiting Mrs. Marguerite Burch. Slo-Pitch Soft ball Association’s World Tournament was held in Petersburg, Va. Sept. 3 through 6. “The Roses’, Softball team of Elizabeth City participated. The team ranks 4th in the state. There has never been a girl’s team from this area to qualify for such an event. Phyllis Spear of Edenton is on the team. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Heilman and son Vaughan left this weekend for their new home in Dallas, Tex. Mrs. Heilman is the former Miss Martha Vaughan and resided on Cypress Drive before moving to Texas.
