Page 3-A Auxiliary Changes Masting Schedule The Chowan 'Hospital Auxiliary has voted to meet three times a year, in Oc tober, January, and April, instead of monthly. The action was taken at the first fall meeting held Monday. The meeting day will be the second Monday of the designated months with business between meetings to be conducted by the executive board. Mrs. Margie Timberlake, auxiliary president, invited members to attend the N. C. Hospital Association District VI workshop November 10 in Greenville. Mrs. Timberlake is also district representative for the hospital association. Mrs. Jacqueline Ricks, volunteer director of ser vices, reported that the response for volunteers at the hospital had been good. She said additional volunteers are needed, especially at Units B and C. The auxiliary approved the purchase of additional smocks for use by volun teers. The annual membership drive will be held late in October. Mrs. Judy Baker, vice president, is mem bership chairman. Proceeds from memberships will go toward projects for the hospital. Special Music Set At Baptist Church Dr. Robert E. Gray, pastor of Edenton Baptist Church, has announced his sermon subject will be “Jesus” at the 11 o’clock Sunday morning service. Scripture will be Romans 1:1-6. Special music at the morning worship will in clude the Youth. Choir singing “Go Ye Into All the World” and the Youth Handbells playing “Jesus Shall Reign.” “Witnessing in the Face of Death” will be Dr. Gray’s topic at the 7:30 evening worship with Acts 5:12-32 as , the text. Band Students Plan Barbecue Plate Ticket Sales Band students in Chowan County will conduct a door to-door barbecue plate ticket sale Monday evening. The advanced sale will be in conjunction with the up coming Peanut Festival being sponsored by the Edenton-Chowan Band Parents Association on October 30. For $2.50 a delicious barbecue lunch or dinner plate may be purchased. The meal will be served, or can be picked up, from 12- noon to 6 P.M. at the American Legion Building and in the Chowan High School Cafeteria on October 30. There will be no home deliveries. Earl Jones is in charge of the dinner and Mrs. John Dunn is responsible for ticket sales. Proceeds from the bar becue plates will go toward new band uniforms and equipment for band students. Citizens are urged to support this project through ticket purchases. Anyone not contacted but desiring a ticket should contact Mrs. Dunn at 482- 4436 or 482-8715 after 5 P.M. or Jake Boyce at 221-4192 after 5 P.M. Garden Club Meeting Held The October meeting of the Garden of Eden Club was held in the home of Mrs. Julian Winslow of Hertford, Tuesday. Refreshments consisting of various herbal recipes were the highlight of the meeting, after which Mrs. Ross Inglis presented a most interesting and in formative program on growing and cooking with herbs. A committee report was given on the annual up coming plant sale to be held on November 2. Among the topics of discussion were the 1973 Rehabilitation Act which requires employers with government contracts to agree to af firmative action to hire and advance qualified handicapped applicants, and the problems of architectural barriers to the handicapped in private businesses and public areas.
