Library Exhibits
St. Luoa’s Beirut
Vaguely reminiscent of
Williamsburg? Possibly.
Dainty floral paintings in
strong, bold colors?
Definitely! What is it? Our
latest and certainly one of
the lovliest exhibits the
library has had from the
North Carolina State
Museum of Arts in Raleigh.
The exhibit, entitled “St.
Leon Bouquet”, is com
prised of 19 untitled flower
arrangements painted in
watercolors sometime
between 1830 and 1840
mostly by Helen Lockie
Jones and her sister Mary.
The nostalgic treatment
and the tiny detailing
enhance the paintings which
were once collected together
in a large leather bound
book on which was inscribed
in gold leaf “St. Leon’s
Bouquet.”
The exhibit, which is part
of the traveling exhibition
program of the N. C.
Museum of Art, will be here
vhrough October 28, so take
part of your lunch hour
(Yes! we are open during
the entire day) and come
feast your eyes and feed
your love for beauty.
And while you’re here,
you can’t fail to note our
fascinating display of
presidential medals which
are currently in our display
case through the courtesy of
John A. Taylor. These large
bronze medals depict the 37
presidents in various poses
and costumes, and are truly
lovely as well as instructive.

RALEIGH —George Wood
of Camden, unsuccessful
candidate for the
Democratic nomination for
governor, is on the steering
committee of the N. C.
Carter Food and
Agriculture Committee. Jim
Graham, commissioner of
agriculture, is chairman.
Graham has said the
farmers of North Carolina
will have a friend in the
White House if Jimmy
Carter is elected president.
“This election is vitally
important to the financial
health and well being of our
family farmers and the
many farm communities
and business centers in
North Carolina,” said
Graham.
“It’s time we had a man
up there in Washington who
knows what it’s like to work
in the fields all day and I
believe it’s time we' had a
southerner in the White
House, a man who knows
about our problems,”
Graham continued.
“Jimmy Carter is the kind
of man who will protect our
tobacco and peanut
programs in the years to
come,” according to
Graham.
“The Ford Admini
stration,” he said, “is not
sympathetic to the con
cept of the family farm.
President Ford has vetoed
every price support bill ever
presented him.”
