Page 4-C Workshop To Booofit I Migrant Program I Teachers who work with 1 migrant children in North j Carolina will attend one of 1 two workshops designed to | help them increase their | competence in teaching | reading. One workshop will be held I November 17-18 at the I Dutch Inn in Benson, i Another will be held November 23-24 at the Town | and Country Restaurant in g Williamston. Each program | begins with a 9:30 A. M. session on the first day and concludes by 4P.M. on the | second day. Sponsored by the N. C. Department of Public In stuction, the workshop will K be conducted by department 1 and regional consultants. I The workshops have been planned to help teachers expand their reservoir of methods and techniques for teaching reading to migrant children. Topic will include assessment and evaluation of reading needs, reading disabilities, reading materials, and classroom organization for instruc tion. Grades K-3 and 4-8 will meet separately. Approximately 250 teach ers, instructional aides, principals, supervisors, and project directors who have responsibilities for instructional programs for migrant students are expected to participate in the two I workshops. According to State I Migrant Education Director I Robert Youngblood, staff I development activities like I these increase the abilities I of teachers to understand I and to improve the skills of I the most educationally disadvantaged group of I people in the country. Migrant education I projects are currently being i conducted in 35 school units I as part of the regular school I term: Alamance, Bertie, I Bladen, Camden, Chowan, I Columbus, Duplin, I Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, I Halifax, Harnett, Haywood, I Henderson, Hertford, Hoke, I Johnston, Lenoir, Maxton, Martin, Montgomery, Nash, I Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Red I Springs, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Saint Pauls, Tyrrell, Washington, and Wilson. Telephone Co. Promotions Announced Norfolk Carolina Telephone Company Board of Directors at its November 10 meeting announced several promotion. Chas. Camden Blades moved from vice president to senior vice president. W. C. Meekins, Jr., moved to vice president, retaining his titles of secretary, treasurer, and commercial manager. T. F. Daniels also moved to vice president, retaining his titles of assistant secretary, assistant treasurer, and Marketing manager. R. M. Byrum moved from chief ac countant to vice presient— comptroller; and D. G. Steele from assistant chief accountant to assistant comptroller. S. T. Barrow, a management trainee, became assistant com mercial manager. Blades began his career with the company in 1919, and has held various positions since that time. He has been a director since .1919. He serves as chairman of the Executive Com mittee. Meekins began in 1954 as commercial representative. He has been a director since 1973, and is on the Executive Committee. Daniels began in 1968 as general staff assistant. He also served as assistant commercial manager. He is on the Executive Com mittee. Byrum began in 1965 as an accountant. He also served as assistant chief ac countant. Steele began in 1974 as assistant chief accountant.
