Baker, 53, died December 13 at his home in Elkins Park, Pa. Amative of Cornish, Utah, he came to Chowan County at the age of 2. He graduated from Chowan High School and was a veteran of World War 11. He was the son of the late Everett and Bertha Baker and the husband of Mrs. Gloria Baker. In addition of his wife, he ’ is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Evelyn Smith of Pompono Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Ruth Dean of Arlington, Va.; and Miss Violet Baker of Tyner. The funeral was held December 16 with burial in Edenton, North Carolina, Thursday, January 6, 1977 Sunset Memorial Park in Philadelphia, Pa. I Watch For Our Grand load Joins SSU Basketball Team MARSHALL, Minn Willie Ray Bond has joined the Southwest State University basketball team this winter. Bond comes to the Mustangs from the College of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, N. C. Willie is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Bond of Edenton. He is majoring in health and physical education at Southwest State. Bond was an all conference selection at J. A. Holmes High School where he was coached by Tom Bass. He also was a two letterman at College of the Albemarle. SSU coach Dale Honeck commented, “Willie is a transfer student with quickness and shooting ability. He could be a big factor for us this year.” Bond is currently leading the Mustangs in free-throw shooting. After 11 games, he is shooting 88 per cent from the line. Southwest State University is one of the. nation’s newest and most modern universities. The school opened its doors in 1967 on a 216-acre campus with a physical plant of over 23 buildings. Mallory, 79, mother of Mrs. Susie White of Edenton, died Saturday. Surviving besides her daughter are four sons: Ellis Edwards of Merry Hill; Earle Edwards of Norfolk, Va.; Harry Mallory of A!buquerque, N. M.; Mrjs. Pat Wood of Chocowinity; 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 P.'M. in the Everetts Christian Church. Burial was in the Everetts Cemetery.
