Thursday, February 3, 1977 The Bandon Notebook By Maggie B. MARVELOUS - SEN SATIONAL - SUPERB! Apt descriptions of concert put on by THE NEW VIRGINIANS of VPI Sunday afternoon in Suffolk, Va., sponsored by the JC’s there. So much adverse publicity has been given to our “wayward” youth it’s truly inspiring to see a group of nice looking students radiating with joy, happiness and wonderful music. The group, all honor students, consist of 25 singers and ten band members under direction of Stan Kingma, also a skilled narrator. Sound equipment and lighting are operated by students and all costumes are made by the students. Only 5 per cent of the group are music majors! It’s an exhilarating experience to know that future leaders of our country will come from young people like this and the JC’s sponsoring them. In my opinion, they are as good as or better than Fred Waring and his group. On this very cold morning, Authentic / Anything Indian I I That You Jewelry \ J Want! BLACKBEARD’S TREASURE EDENTON, N. C. Idea Street 452-4466 Supt. H.T. Bunting welcomed everyone to the warmth and friendliness of Sunday School at Bandon. The Attendance Contest is really great - one can feel a little spirit of competition even. We were happy to welcome Mr. and Mrs. A1 Church as guests of B. Kent Rowley and Mrs. Barbara Lane from Newport News, Va. as a first timer. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Christ and Tracy were with us for the second Sunday, as well as Mrs. Ed Moriarty. Look out men, the ladies are still leading! Prayer List: Added this week were Glenn Williams, Room 2061, Chowan Hospital, brother of Mrs. Helen Skinner; Richard “Duck” Reed, Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Ward 48, and little Billy Koraska, grandson of Mrs. Virginia Koraska who accidently pushed his arm through a glass storm door. Also still in need of prayer are Roy Housden, Bill Matthews, Mrs. Missouri Byrum, Mrs. Eva Jernigan, Ed Terle, Donna Hardison, little Christina Vozquez of Atlanta, Ga., and Juanita Elliott. Please add our friends to your prayer list, also our missionnaries Nita Pride, David, Linda and little Becky Smith and our beloved pastor, Dr. W.J.B. Livingston. Supt. Bunting has a card from Louise and Willie Waters in Bradenton, Fla. They said “you’d better bring your long-Johns if planning to visit Florida in the near future.” —O— The topic for our Juniors, taught by Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Beach, based on Mark 3: 13-19; Luke 6:12-16 was entitled “Jesus’ Examples Help Choices”. Aim was that the student may learn to pray for God’s help in making the right choices. —O— “Power Over The Demonic”, Mark 1:21;34, forcefully taught by B. Kent Rowley was the subject for our adults. Christ has power over the spiritual forces of thik world and can give us strength to avoid en tanglements with demonic powers that would enslave us - but - Christians have to claim Christ’s power and victory over personal vices and occult powers. —O— Dr. W.J.B. Livingston’s beautiful message was entitled “ALL ALIKE”, Romans 3:19-26, with em phasis on vs 23. To have his point “Reach Home”, following the example of Jesus he put it in parable form. A thoughtful young father with a dulling sense of soul sickness was sitting on a pillowed window seat watching the snow gently falling, covering everything in sight. As he watched, he thought “surely there must be two alike”. Soon he dropped off to sleep. An angel tapped him on the shoulder, took his hand and led him right through the window and out into the snow. The angel said “I have given you eyes to see. Look at the Snowflakes. Are any two alike?” The man THE CHOWAN HERALD replied “No”. The angel then took him to the woods to see the leaves. There were thousands of them, all sizes and shapes - but - no two alike. “Would you like to see the stars?” asked the angel. “0, Yes”, said the man. So up and away they flew to the land of the stars. They saw burning suns, cold planets, large and small - thousands of them, yet each different. The Bible says “that one star differeth from another star in glory” remarked the angel. (I Cor. 14:41). “Would you like to look at people? asked the angel. “Yes, indeed” replied the man. They visited the land of the rising sun, the country of dense jungles, the land of flowing rivers and the country of high mountains. Everywhere they saw people. Big and small, fat and lean, young and old, black like ebony, red as clay, yellow as dull gold and white like the sands on the shore. “What do you see” asked the angel. “I see all sorts and kinds but no two of them are alike”. “That’s right”, said the angel, “God has not made any two things exactly alike.” “Isn’t anything alike” asked the man. “Yes” said the angel, but that is what I want you to discover for yourself. She then took him back to the window seat. He awoke and thought he had been dreaming - then, he saw the angel. “Get your Bible and look up the verses that tell you although God has made nothing exactly alike, there are important areas where ' all ARE alike for the Bible says that in spite of dif ferences, there is NO DIFFERENCE between people. Fully awake now, he found his Bible, moved to a table with pencil and paper in hand. “So many pages! How will I ever find what I’m looking for?” As he opened the Bible, it seemed as though* he was guided by an unseen hand. His eye caught on this line. “Have we not all one Father? Hath not one God created us?” (Mai. 2:10) My soul, thought the man, that means that I am related to everybody - we all have a common beginning! He found that ALL men were made of one thing - dust (Ps. 103:14) and one blood, all nations of men (Acts 17-26). “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. (Rom. 3:23). “ All we like sheep have gone astray” (Is. 53:6) and because of this we are all under God’s judgment. “As by the offense of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation” (Rom. 5:18). Well, thought the man, that certainly leaves us in a fix. Something said “Keep going”. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) He found that even though all men are sinners, God loves us and declared it by coming to earth and suffering for the sins of all. God is not willing for men to stay as they are, but that all should be saved. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise as some count slackness; but is long suf fering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9) That means turning around from the way you’ve been going and accept God’s way. He looked back on all the angel had shown him, the greatness of God, our Creator and his own sick soul then he read “But now God commandth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30) and he thought of his need. He got down on his knees, looked up at the sky with a new conception of God and His great love. He said “Lord, I believe, forgive me for all my sins, have mercy on my soul, have pity on me.” The bond between him and God was sealed as. he worshiped and a new birth was announced on high by the Heavenly Choir. Another child, heir of the Kingdom, had been born. Bible Study will be Wednesday at 7:30 P.M. with Dr. Bill leading the discussion. The BCWG meets on Thursday from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. The situation was that my car broke down at the edge of town on January 11.1 was referred to Mr. Smith as a top mechanic in your area. Mr. Smith and his mechanic, Jeff, dropped their other work, fixed my car, and had me going again in less than an hour. To beat all, I was also only minimally charged for this very professional repair. In many towns I could have been left all night and stuck with a hefty charge. My warmest thanks go to Mr. Smith and his company, and my highest recom mendation of his service to the Chamber. Northside Auto is really an asset for your beautiful town. Sincerely H.
