Page 4-C Special Program Slated For Airing Hie development of North Carolina’s vocational education program and the highlights of its current operation will be featured in the University of North Carolina Television Net work program, “Hie Kill Builders • N.C. Milestones in Vocational Education”, on Thursday evening at 7 o’clock, according to Dennis Burgess, vocational trades department chairperson at College of The Albemarle. “The program, which will be aired on Channels 2 and 25, traces the beginning of vocational education in the state and shows what some of the early programs in volved," Burgess said. He explained that currently, some $142 million is ex pended each year on vocational education in community colleges and high schools throughout North Carolina. “There are 512 vocational and technical students enrolled at COA,” he said. “The annual cost for the education of our students is approximately $900,000.” The first portion of the telecast is an historical account of the programs through interviews with those persons who were instrumental in the for mation of initial vocational educational programs. One of the interviews will carry viewers to the site of an early vocational school which was established in 1915, at Middleburg. Billy E. Barnes, producer of “The Skill Builder”, talks with a graduate of the first class of vocational education teachers in North Carolina. Terry Sanford, president of Duke University, and Rod Taylor, former congressman, who played prominent roles in the development of the state’s community college system, both appear on the program. The last segment of the public service program focuses on the scope of vocational education today, including the number of students involved, program finance and fund allocation. Os the nation’s 577,000 women veterans, 285,000 were in the Army, according to the Veterans Ad ministration. ! OFFICE BUILDING | FOR RENT 26' x 60' Brick Building (1560 sq. ft).
