Patrick Mead of Calera,
Ala., will be the guest
speaker at the Church of
Christ on Mexico Road this
Sunday. He is a graduate of
Northeastern High School in
Elizabeth City, and is now
the minister of the Church of
Christ in Calera. Mr. Mead
is also the son of Bill Mead,
who is the minister for the
Mexico Road congregation.

law of the elder Mead, will

There is one remark
which is being uttered by
someone, somewhere every
moment. Those five words
could be spoken in English,
Italian, Russian, Eskimo,
Chinese, or whatever:
“Where did the time go?”
Now that the end of the
year is finally here, students
look back and think, “What
a fast year it was after all”
teachers look back in
amazement on the amount
of material they actually
covered in the short period
of time; principals and
administrators lode back to
see what changes and im
provements need to be made
and immediately forward to
new planning. Graduating
seniors look back with
mixed emotions on 12 years
of relative security and
happiness,, as they ponder
their future; and parents
look back in disbelief - that
their first or youngest child
is actually old enough to
graduate from high school
and on, too soon, to a life of
his own. We often wonder if
Time is Friend or Foe.
In all the looking back, for
whatever reason, the

Brother Dies
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.
Word has been received
here of the death of Jeffers
H. Robbins, 66, brother of
Mrs. Margaret Savage, 116
Magnolia Drive Edenton.
A native of Norfolk County
and a retired roofer of
Dalton Roofing Co., he died
Tuesday in a Middlesex, Va.
nursing home.
Surviving besides Mrs.
Savage are one other sister,
Mrs. Mary Nichols of
Norfolk and a brother,
Robert L. Robbins of
Chesapeake.
A funeral will be held
today (Thursday) at 2 P.M.
in the Hollomon-Brown
Funeral Home, Indian River
Chapel, with burial in
Willowwood Cemetery.

graduation was no laughing matter, even though the theme
of their entertainment was “Hee Haw.” Forty-five, straw
hatted, bib over all and gingham dressed students seriously
received their certificate from Supt. John Dunn and Prin
cipal John Guard, following a program of square dancing,
songs and riddles. Jonathan Nixon is shown as he received
his certificate from Supt. Dunn.

Church of God in Christ, in
Windsor, N.C. Highlight of
the 11:30 A.M. worship
service will be an address
by Dr. Thomas E. Carter,
Assistant to Elizabeth City
State University’s Chan
cellor, Dr. Marion D.
Thorpe.
Dr. Carter, who is also a
Professor of Mathematics at
ECSU, has an extensive
background in education,
counseling, curriculum
development and ad
ministration, being listed
with the U.S. Office of
Education as a Specialist in
Inner-City Education. A
graduate of Virginia State
College and Temple
University, he has held
positions in Charles City,
Va., Philadelphia, Pa., as
well as at Virginia State.
While in Philadelphia, Dr.
Carter served as a futor for
inner-city children at the
Martin Luther King Com
munity Center, the First
Presbyterian Church, a
Catholic Church in North
Philadelphia, and in private
homes. He also served as a
“Big Brother” to a
fatherless boy in Wayne,
Pa., for two years, and still
maintains that relationship
on a limited basis.

America, Dr. Carter is a
member of the American
Association of University
Professors, the
Mathematics Association of
America, the National
Council of Teachers of
