Students Earn Various Awards
On May 28 the second
annual awards banquet of
r Immanuel Christian School
was held at the American
Legion Building in Edenton.
The 200 hundred people in
attendance head Bud
Bierman, director of Alumni
Affairs for Bob Jones
University, Greenville, S.C.,
as the featured speaker.
Bierman used the Old
Testament character of
Daniel as an illustration of
how young people today
need to have the courage to
stand up and be counted for
God.
A Shakespearean scene,
“The Merchant of Venice”,
was [resented by Senior
High Students. The scene
depicted the need man has
for seeking mercy rather
than judgment. Diane
Rollins wrote the cutting'

Following a duet by
Corrine Williams and Kathy
Fur bee, the primary, junior
and senior choirs presented
a short program of Scrip
ture, poetry, and song en
titled, “Christian Warfare.”
This program was written
and directed by Lynn Nash.
After the musical
program and the address by
Bierman, awards in
academics, sports and
Christian Leadership were
presented.
The pastor’s award for
outstanding example of
Christian leadership, went to
David Rollins.
For best example in using
the programmed motivated
learning of the Accelerated
Christian Education
System, the Supervisor’s
Award was presented to
Andrew Rouse.
Other academic trophies
went to Diane Rollins and
Tracy Nobles for having the
most PACES completed in
High School and Elemen
tary school respectively.
The highest PACE average
trophies went to Andrew
Rouse and Paul Jimenez.
Diane Rollins and Joey
Charbonneau were awarded
the Bible Memory trophies
for learning the most
scripture verses.
Top Male athlete of the
year was Barry Leary. Lynn
Nash was named best female
athlete. Letters, pins, and
jackets were present to
those who had earned them
in football and basketball.
The Student Council
student of the year award

the elementary school and
Kathy Fur bee in the High
School.
Terry Williams of the
Woodman of the World Life
Insurance Company
presented a trophy to Diane
Rollins for outstanding
achievement in high school
U. S. History. A plaque was
presented to Ricky Browder
for the same achievement
on the Junior High level.
Many certificates of honor
and scholarship were
presented to various students
to recognize individual
achievements.
The staff of the school’s
first annual, the Heritage
‘77, presented a plaque to
Mrs. Emma £vans in
appreciation of her help as
advisor. Andrew Rouse,
editor, also presented a
35mm camera to be used for
future yearbook pictures to
Ashby Browder, principal.
Browder closed the
evening, by thanking his
staff, students and parents
for helping this to be one of
the best years in the school’s
history.

University, Chicago, 111.,
following the successful
completion of the Ad
ministrative Assistant
course.
She resides at 119 West
Carteret Street.
A graduate of Perquimans
County Union School, she is
employed as a physical
therapy aide at Chowan
Hospital.

RECEIVE DAR RECOGNITION - Mrs Marguenle
Burch recognized the student in the sth and 6th grades at
Swain Elementary School as winners in the American
History Essay Contest sponsored annually by the Edenton
Tea Party DAR. These winners were presented copies of
Thomas C. Panamore’s “Craddle of The Colony” during
E.A. Swain’s Awards Day program. Pictured left to right
