She is shown center above with Cheri Davenport, Edenton BPW president, at left and Gail Gieseke, 1976 Clubwoman of the Year, who made the presen tation. \ BPW Mrs. Lola Bass Edenton BPW Club last Thursday night presented their Outstanding Club woman of the Year award to Mrs. Lola Allan Bass, nursing supervisor of the Chowan County Health Department, and the wife of the late H.E. Bass of Edenton. She became one of 18 other BPW women to be honored with the award since its beginning in 1958. In a joint meeting of the Edenton and Plymouth chapters held at Mrs. Boswell’s Restaurant, Gail Gieseke, 1976 recipient, presented the award to Mrs. Bass, a 13-year member of BPW. As a BPW member, it was pointed out that Mrs. Bass has served as chairman of all standing committees and many special ones and has served as second vice president and parliamen tarian of the local club. Her civic activities have in cluded Boy Scout den mother, a member of the Chowan County Cancer Society, a member of the N.C. Public Health Association, secretary of District 19 Nurses Association, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Bass is a registered nurse of 36 years. She served as a nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II followed by con tinuing her career in various hospitals and in private duty before joining the Chowan County Health Dept, in 1966. Mrs. Lassiter Wins Competition During the week of National Business Women’s Week, Mrs. Marginette Lassiter, Route 2, Edenton, won first place in the N.C. Nurses’ Association writing competition. The an nouncement was made during the state convention of the association in Raleigh, held October 16- 20th. The writing competition was state-wide and was held in conjunction with the 75th Society News Mr. and Mrs. John Isenhower and children of Raleigh were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Griffin. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Hopkins and daughter of Newport News visited Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hopkins last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Tarkington have returned after spending a few days in Charlotte on a buying trip. Mrs. Lassiter’s paper was en titled, “Home Health and H 20.” Mrs. Lassiter was at tending the convention as a delegate from District 19. In addition to her ac tivities in the N.C. Gray, pastor of Edenton Baptist Church, will use the subject “The Application of Christian Committment” as his sermon topic at the 11 o’clock worship on Sunday morning. Scripture will be taken from Romans 6:12-14. The Sanctuary Choir will render the anthem, “Lord Jesus, Think on Me” at the morning worship. At the 7:30 evening ser vice, Dr. Gray will speak on “The Beginning of a New. Era” with text from Acts 13:4-12. The message in song at the evening worship will be a solo, “Peace Like a River”, by Gerald Hamilton, tenor. The Youth Choir will sing “Glory, Hallelujah, Jubilee” as the anthem.
