Letter To The Herald Editor
On Saturday, October 29,
District VIII of the N.C.
Daughters of the American
Revolution held its’ annual
Good Citizens’ Day in your
lovely old town. Mrs. R.E.
Leeper, regent of the
Edenton Tea Party Chap
ter; and Mrs. Geroge Mack,
chairman of the Chapter’s
Good Citizen Committee
planned the day for us.
From the delicious
refreshments they had
pepared at the Barker
House, and the Historical
Tour they provided, and
lastly, a delicious luncheon
at Mrs. Boswell’s fine
restaurant topped by a fine
speech from your Mayor

Life long resident of Third Ward.
Young man, knowing needs and
working to make Edenton and
community a more beautiful and
healthful place to live, worship,
work and play. And working
hard to keep it that way.
THANK YOU!
Roy Harrell, it was all a
great day for each of us!
I feel sure that Mr.
Harrell’s talk inspired our
young people there to aim
toward public service in
their own towns or cities. If
Mr. Harrell lived in my
town, I’d be very proud to
back him! You are indeed
fortunate to have such a nice
mayor!
One of your young citizens
was presented a Good
Citizen Award: Miss
Amanda Bunch. She was
runner-up in the district
contest.
Every young person there
had been chosen the out
standing Good Citizen of
their school, so they were
each winners. Miss Mary
Jill Copeland was the Good
Citizen chosen from Chowan
High School; and Kenneth
Pierce was the Good Citizen
chosen from the John A.
Holmes School. Miss Bunch
represented Chowan
Academy.
All of the judges for the
papers complained of the
awesome task of choosing
winners from such excellent
entries.
I just wanted you to know
that we enjoyed our
hospitality and to com
pliment you on many fine
citizens!
Sincerely,
Mrs. J.C. Barnes, Jr.
